Concurrent ascending colon adenocarcinoma and colonic tuberculosis: a case report from Syria.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Tuberculosis (TB) has been one of the most devastating diseases to humanity in recent decades; although pulmonary infection is the most common, infection of any other organ is familiar as well. Colon cancer is another disease affecting the gastrointestinal (GI) system and mostly targets people over 50. Only a few studies mentioned the co-existence of cancer and TB occurring at the same place and time. Hence, the authors report a rare case of concurrent ascending colon adenocarcinoma and colonic TB. CASE PRESENTATION: A 49 -year-old man presented to our clinic with

Tumor Lysis Syndrome After mFOLFOX6 Administration for Ascending Colon Cancer.

Tumor lysis syndrome (TLS) is an oncologic emergency characterized by massive tumor cell lysis accompanied by the excessive release of large amounts of intracellular electrolytes and metabolites into the bloodstream. TLS is a potentially life-threatening condition that can lead to acute kidney injury, seizures, and sudden death due to arrhythmias. Therefore, prophylactic measures and prompt therapeutic intervention are essential for its management. TLS in solid tumors is extremely rare and has been documented only in a limited number of case reports. To our knowledge, three previous cases of T

[A Case Report of Ascending Colon Cancer with Intestinal Tuberculosis].

A 67-year-old man tested positive for fecal occult blood during a medical checkup. Colonoscopy revealed 2 circular narrowing sections and ulcers in the ascending colon. Subsequently, intestinal tuberculosis was suspected, and a biopsy revealed a well-differentiated adenocarcinoma. The patient underwent laparoscopic right colectomy. Pathological findings revealed adenocarcinoma, caseous granuloma, and acid-fast bacteria in the lesions. Therefore, we report a case of ascending colon cancer with intestinal tuberculosis.

Ileocecal intussusception as presentation for ascending colon carcinoma. Case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Intussusception is described as invagination of a segment of the bowel into the lumen of an adjacent segment. Although it is the most frequent cause of intestine obstruction during childhood, it is unusual in adulthood, where intussusception represents 1% of all intestine obstructions and 5 % of all intussusceptions. CASE PRESENTATION: A 64-year-old female presented with a history of weight loss, intermittent diarrhea, and occasional transrectal bleeding. An abdominal computed tomography (CT scan) was performed showing a neoproliferative appearance and associated

[Collision Tumor Involving Primary Ascending Colon Cancer and Malignant Lymphoma].

A 78-year-old male was diagnosed with a primary gastric B-cell malignant lymphoma and metastatic lung tumor 10 years ago. He underwent chemotherapy at another hospital, achieved complete remission, and was actively undergoing follow- up. He presented to our hospital with a 1-month history of a bulge in his right lower abdomen. CT revealed thickening of the ascending colon and dilatation of the oral intestine. He was diagnosed with ascending colon cancer and underwent right hemicolectomy. The subsequent pathological examination revealed a collision tumor involving diffuse, large B-cell lymphoma

Case report: An adult intussusception caused by ascending colon cancer.

Adults with bowel intussusception caused by malignant tumors are fairly uncommon. We presented a case of a 64-year-old woman whose intussusception was secondary to ascending colon cancer. A color Doppler ultrasonography of the abdomen revealed a low echo mass in the right middle abdomen. Physical examination and digital rectal examination were both unremarkable. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a concentric circle change in the colon, as well as the mesenterium and arteries. Electronic colonoscopy discovered the colonic giant proliferative lesions and stenosis. Adenocarcinoma with moderate di

Large Metastatic Cardiac Tumor from Ascending Colon Cancer with Autopsy.

A metastatic cardiac tumor from colon cancer is an exceedingly rare clinical feature associated with a poor prognosis without therapeutic intervention; however, such cases may be frequently encountered in clinical practice, especially among the elderly. We report a case of synchronous double cancer of the prostate and ascending colon with metastases to multiple organs, including a large cardiac tumor. A 71-year-old Japanese man had prostate cancer with neck and para-aortic metastasis. He visited our hospital with complaints of fatigue and a positive fecal occult blood test result. Colonoscopy

Clostridium septicum aortitis with synchronous ascending colon and rectal adenocarcinoma.

Clostridium septicum (C. septicum) aortitis is a rare condition frequently associated with colon adenocarcinoma and carries a poor prognosis. We report the case of a 66-year-old man who presented with abdominal pain, blood in the stool, fever and chills. Laboratory tests were significant for leukocytosis and microcytic anemia. Abdominal imaging revealed a right colon mass and aortitis. Colonoscopy confirmed the right colon mass and also discovered a rectal mass, both adenocarcinomas. Treatment consisted of antibiotics, aortic repair, right hemi-colectomy and later trans-anal excision of the re

Laparoscopic right hemicolectomy for ascending colon cancer with persistent mesocolon.

Persistent ascending or descending mesocolon is an embryological anomaly that occurs during the final process of intestinal development in organogenesis. Specifically, the primitive dorsal mesocolon fails to fuse with the parietal peritoneum in the fifth month of gestation. Herein, we describe a case of ascending colon cancer with persistent ascending and descending mesocolon treated by laparoscopic right hemicolectomy. Preoperative computed tomography imaging of the abdomen demonstrated that the descending colon shifted at the midline of the abdomen and the sigmoid colon was located under the

Attempted medical management of suspected ascending colon displacement in horses.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the success of medical management of suspected displacement of the ascending (large) colon in horses. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective case series. ANIMALS: Horses (n = 127) with suspected large colon displacement. METHODS: Medical records (January 1998-September 2008) of horses admitted for colic were reviewed. Suspected large colon displacement was diagnosed from clinical examination and in some cases, subsequent surgical examination. Medically managed horses were exercised and administered intravenous fluids and analgesia. Horses with suspected left dorsal displacement

Mobile caecum and ascending colon syndrome in a Nigerian adult.

A mobile caecum and ascending colon is a rare congenital abnormality. Its presentation as a cause of right lower abdominal pain in an adult is usually mis-diagnosed as acute appendicitis. A 42-year-old civil servant presented with a 2-year history of recurrent right lower quadrant pain of the abdomen. The pain was sharp in nature and persistent in the last 2 weeks and centered mainly in the right side of the abdomen. No other associated symptoms were noted. Laboratory investigations did not reveal obvious abnormality. A diagnosis of acute on chronic lower quadrant pain of unknown etiology was

Signet ring cell infiltration in tubular adenoma of ascending colon.

We present a case of signet ring cell infiltration in an adenomatous polyp of the ascending colon and review the literature. The patient had undergone resection of a mucin-producing adenocarcinoma of the proximal sigmoid colon seven months before the findings were reported. We presume that the signet ring cell aggregates are of metastatic origin.

[Autopsy case of malignant carcinoid tumor of the ascending colon].

A 72-year-old female operated for ascending colon cancer was histologically diagnosed as having co-existing goblet cell-like carcinoid and rosette-forming carcinoid. The tumor cells were positive for the argyrophil reaction, but negative for the argentaffin reaction. A few tumor cells had both argyrophil granules and sulfated acid mucin in their cytoplasm. Despite combination chemotherapy she expired 10 months after the operation. Autopsy revealed local recurrence and metastases to the liver, lung, pancreas, left adrenal and many lymph nodes.
