Rethinking Palliative Care Through Three Institutional Ethnographic Stories of People Living With Homelessness and Life-Limiting Illness.

Fifteen to thirty percent of Canadians have access to palliative care, with even fewer access opportunities for people with experiences of homelessness. Existing research identifies barriers to access but rarely shows how health and social institutions actively organize exclusion. Part of a larger study, this paper examines how health and social systems shape the need for community-based palliative and end-of-life care, using 3 stories from clients of the Community Allied Mobile Palliative Partnership (CAMPP). Using institutional ethnography, data were collected between Fall 2019 and Summer 20

Brazilian Immigrant Parents' Perspectives on Oral Health in Early Childhood and Suggested Strategies for Education, Access, and Care: Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Oral health in early childhood is vital for long-term well-being, yet dental caries is highly prevalent among young children in the United States, especially in low-income and immigrant families. Brazilian immigrants, a rapidly growing Latin American population in the United States, face distinct barriers to oral health care, such as language differences, limited access to care, and a lack of culturally tailored resources. Despite this, Brazilian immigrants are understudied in public health research. Understanding Brazilian immigrant parents' perspectives is essential to advancing

Prevalence and associated factors of health facility delivery during COVID-19 in the Tamale Metropolis of Ghana: Analytical cross-sectional study.

INTRODUCTION: Globally, the COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted the provision of maternal health services, especially facility-based delivery. However, there is little evidence on the proportion of women who delivered at the health facility in various locations and the factors that influenced women's decision-making in choosing a place of delivery during and amid the COVID-19 restrictions. Therefore, this study assessed the prevalence and factors associated with health facility delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Tamale Metropolis of Ghana. METHODS: An analytical cross-sectional

Sociodemographic correlates of cervix, breast and oral cancer screening among Indian women.

INTRODUCTION: Cervix, breast and oral cancers account for about one-third of all cancers in India which as a group is a major contributor to all non-communicable disease-related morbidity and mortality among women. Existing evidence suggests that early diagnosis plays a pivotal role in the prevention and intervention of these cancers, and many community-based early screening and awareness programs have been in place in developed countries. Currently, there is not enough research evidence regarding the sociodemographic correlates of cervix, breast and oral cancer screening among Indian women. I

Same Average, Different Odds: Maternal-health Lessons for India from Rwanda and Peru.

BACKGROUND: India has reduced its maternal mortality ratio faster than the global average, reaching 93 per 100,000 live births in 2019-21 and 88 in 2021-23. The national figure hides a nearly nine-fold gap between the best and worst-performing states. Deaths that remain fall mainly on rural, tribal, and poor women, in whom the three classic delays in obtaining care overlap with poverty, distance, caste, and gender. POLICY AND IMPLICATIONS: The most useful lessons for India come not from wealthy systems but from countries that started poorer and still moved faster on equity. Rwanda combined a

Effects of healthcare access and financial status on self-rated health among adults living alone in South Korea.

Assessments of the overall health status of people living alone are important for developing health promotion programs and delivering appropriate health services. In the context of universal social health insurance system of South Korea, the relationship between failure to access health-care and self-rated health among adults living alone has given little attention. In addition, the influence of objective financial status on self-rated health in adults living alone has not explored so far. The sample of the present study comprised 4,852 adults who participated in the cross-sectional 2015 Korea

Identifying vulnerable groups of community-dwelling older adults with a strong willingness to receive volunteer services based on machine learning methods.

BACKGROUND: Although volunteer services play an increasingly important role in addressing the aging crisis, there is still insufficient evidence on which community-based older adult groups should be prioritized for service provision. This study aims to identify the key characteristics of vulnerable community-dwelling older adults with strong willingness and high demand for volunteer services. METHODS: This study employed a cross-sectional descriptive design. A total of 852 community-dwelling older adults from four central cities in China were surveyed between March 25 and May 5, 2022, using a

Pragmatic trial of a multilevel community-centred intervention to reduce pregnancy-related and associated morbidity and mortality and disparities: a study protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Maternal morbidity and mortality in the USA disproportionately affect some women, including the Medicaid-insured, rural and Black, Hispanic and Native American populations. The drivers of disparities are complex and there is an urgent need for multilevel interventions focused on pregnancy-related and associated morbidity and mortality (PRAMM). This study will be the first large-scale test of community health worker inclusive home visiting and provider/practice/system level improvement strategies that support empowered patients, proactive providers and integrate community and clin

Administrative Burdens as Distinct Barriers to Accessing Mental Health Services in Community Mental Health Centers and Federally Qualified Health Centers: A Mixed-Methods Assessment.

Increasingly, adolescents are struggling with poor mental health outcomes, making it essential to improve access to high-quality mental health services. Community Mental Health Centers (CMHCs) and Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) act as key "safety-net" health centers for low-income youth seeking mental health services, as the majority accept Medicaid. This study examines how administrative burdens, i.e., challenges citizens face when interacting with a government agency, may act as barriers to accessing mental health services, especially for adolescents and their caregivers. This ex

Qualitative perspectives of Medicaid-insured patients on ambulatory care at an academic medical center: challenges and opportunities.

BACKGROUND: Ambulatory access to academic medical centers (AMCs) for patients insured with Medi-Cal (i.e., Medicaid in California) is understudied, particularly among the 85% of beneficiaries enrolled in managed care plans. As more AMCs develop partnerships with these plans, data on patient experiences of access to care and quality are needed to guide patient-centered improvements in care delivery. METHODS: The authors conducted semi-structured, qualitative interviews with Medi-Cal-insured patients with initial visits at a large, urban AMC during 2022. Participant recruitment was informed by
