Following the outbreak of COVID-19, several immunotherapy methods were used to modulate the immune responses of patients. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the immune response to COVID-19 in patients receiving convalescent plasma. In this regard, this randomized controlled trial included 30 patients who were divided into two groups according to receiving convalescent plasma or normal control plasma. Samples from both groups were collected on days 0, 1, 3, 5 and 7 after plasma infusion. We measured the expression level of TLR7/8, IRF3/7, CTLA-4, PD-1 and T cell transcription factors by Real-t

INTRODUCTION: During the COVID-19 pandemic, several strategies were suggested for the management of the disease, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments such as convalescent plasma (CP). The use of CP was suggested due to the beneficial results shown in treating other viral diseases.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the efficacy and safety of CP obtained from whole blood in patients with COVID-19.
METHODS: Pilot clinical trial in patients with COVID-19 from a general hospital. The subjects were separated into three groups that received the transfusion of 400ml of CP (n=23) or 400

BACKGROUND: Neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS) is a growing public health problem associated with complex and prolonged medical care … rphine doses were six-fold higher for PRH than NICU discharge.
CONCLUSIONS: Infants transferred to convalescence care facilities had longer and more costly admissions and received more medication. However, there may be a role for earlier transfer of a subset of infants at-risk for longer LOS as those exposed to methadone and/or benzodiazepines. Further studies …

A 35-year-old man who returned from Germany developed fever, generalized pain, severe anal pain, and generalized skin rash, confirmed to be monkeypox (mpox). While he was previously confirmed to be human immunodeficiency virus infected, antiretroviral therapy ensured his immunocompetence. The mpox-related prodromal symptoms disappeared before isolation, and subsequent several vesicular skin lesions healed after admission. While moderate anal pain persisted for a few days, it improved during hospitalization. The mpox virus was no longer detected in samples taken from the upper respiratory tract

Convalescent plasma (CP) recurs as a frontline treatment in epidemics because it is available as soon as there are survivors. The COVID-19 pandemic represented the first large-scale opportunity to shed light on the mechanisms of action, safety, and efficacy of CP using modern evidence-based medicine approaches. Studies ranging from observational case series to randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have reported highly variable efficacy results for COVID-19 CP (CCP), resulting in uncertainty. We analyzed variables associated with efficacy, such as clinical settings, disease severity, CCP SARS-CoV

Background Immunocompromised patients, including those with haematological malignancies, are among the high-risk group to develop severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) complications. The effectiveness of passive immunotherapy with convalescent plasma (CP) on such patients diagnosed with COVID-19 has not been reviewed. Therefore, the aim of this review was to systematically appraise the current evidence for the efficacy of this therapy in haematological malignancies patients with COVID-19 infection. Methods A comprehensive search was conducted up-to October 2021, using four databases: PubM

In COVID-19 the development of severe viral pneumonia that is coupled with systemic inflammatory response triggers multi-organ failure and is of major concern. Cardiac involvement occurs in nearly 60% of patients with pre-existing cardiovascular conditions and heralds worse clinical outcome. Diagnoses carried out in the acute phase of COVID-19 rely upon increased levels of circulating cardiac injury biomarkers and transthoracic echocardiography. These diagnostics, however, were unable to pinpoint the mechanisms of cardiac injury in COVID-19 patients. Identifying the main features of cardiac in

OBJECTIVES: The patients with hematological malignancies are a vulnerable group to COVID-19, due to the immunodeficiency resulting from the underlying disease and oncological treatment that significantly impair cellular and humoral immunity. Here we report on a beneficial impact of a passive immunotherapy with convalescent plasma to treat a prolonged, active COVID-19 infection in a patient with a history of nasopharyngeal diffuse large B-cell lymphoma treated with the therapy inducing substantial impairment of particularly humoral arm of immune system. The specific aim was to quantify SARS-CoV

More than one year into the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, healthcare systems across the world continue to be overwhelmed with soaring daily cases. The treatment spectrum primarily includes ventilation support augmented with repurposed drugs and/or convalescent plasma transfusion (CPT) from recovered COVID-19 patients. Despite vaccine variants being recently developed and administered in several countries, challenges in global supply chain logistics limit their timely availability to the wider world population, particularly in developing countries. Given the measured succe

OBJECTIVE: Covid19 has emerged as a greatest threat of the decade worldwide. At present there is no certain treatment for treating coronavirus diseases, while some antiviral drugs (Remdesivir , Lopinavir and Ritonavir) are under investigation. Many countries including India have adopted the convalescent plasma therapy in the treatment of moderate to severely ill patients. Despite the treatment being given ,there are no such evidences on the utility and efficacy of convalescent plasma. Hence this study tries to find out the impact on the discharge status from hospital of the patients receiving

BACKGROUND: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an emerged pandemic disease with no specific treatment. One of the potential treatments in newly found infectious disease is plasma exchange (PE) with convalescent plasma transfusion (CPT). This case series aimed to evaluate the primary PE and CPT in five Iranian COVID-19 patients.
METHODS: Five patients with confirmed COVID-19 who had acute respiratory distress syndrome and were supported by mechanical ventilation were treated with two consecutive PE containing fresh frozen plasma (FFP) of healthy donors and 0.9 % saline solution containing

IMPORTANCE: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a pandemic with no specific therapeutic agents and substantial mortality. It is critical to find new treatments.
OBJECTIVE: To determine whether convalescent plasma transfusion may be beneficial in the treatment of critically ill patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection.
DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Case series of 5 critically ill patients with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) who met the following criteria: severe pneumonia with rapid progression a

BACKGROUND: Convalescent plasma and hyperimmune immunoglobulin may reduce mortality in patients with respiratory virus diseases, and are currently being investigated in trials as a potential therapy for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). A thorough understanding of the current body of evidence regarding the benefits and risks is required. OBJECTIVES: To assess whether convalescent plasma or hyperimmune immunoglobulin transfusion is effective and safe in the treatment of people with COVID-19.
SEARCH METHODS: The protocol was pre-published with the Center for Open Science and can be accessed

The outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in China led to a public health emergency of international concern, putting all health organizations on high alert in the beginning of 2020. Corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is highly infectious and has resulted in thousands of deaths which exceeded that of the SARS coronavirus (SARS-CoV) outbreak back in 2002 and 2003 in China. Besides, the number of diagnosed patients, patients who are suspected to have contracted the disease, and deaths are increasing worldwide. Unfortunately, effective drugs and vaccines to co
