Recurrent Corneal Perforation due to Chronic Graft versus Host Disease; a Clinicopathologic Report.

PURPOSE: To describe a case of chronic graft versus host disease (GVHD) leading to severe dry eye and recurrent corneal perforation in both eyes, its stepwise management and histopathological reports. CASE REPORT: A 22-year-old woman with a history of thalassemia and subsequent high-dose chemotherapy followed by allogeneic bone marrow transplant (BMT) was referred to Farabi Eye Hospital. Despite aggressive medical and surgical intervention, corneal vascularization in her right eye progressed and led to corneal perforation. Cyanoacrylate glue was applied to seal the perforation, however it rec…

The use of preserved bovine pericardium for emergency temporizing graft in corneal perforation.

Corneal perforation is an ocular emergency that requires early intervention to avoid permanent visual loss from endophthalmitis or irreversible structural changes. Although tectonic keratoplasty is the best choice for patching a large perforation, a donor cornea is not always immediately available. Consequently, an alternative material is required while awaiting a donor cornea. We report the use of preserved bovine pericardium as a temporizing graft to maintain the ocular integrity in two patients with corneal perforation.

Corneoscleral ulceration and corneal perforation after pterygium excision and topical mitomycin C therapy.

A 78-year-old woman complained of ocular pain in the right eye. Thirty-three months before, the patient had a pterygium excised and mitomycin C, 0.04%, was instilled 3 times a day postoperatively for 10 days in the right eye. The same surgery was performed and the same drug was used for a course of 5 days in the left eye. Corneoscleral ulceration and corneal performation occurred in the right eye. The lesions were successfully treated with a lamellar patch graft with reserved corneosclera. We believe that it may not be safe to instill 0.04% mitomycin C 3 times a day postoperatively for 10 days

Bilateral corneal perforation following post-PRK fungal keratitis managed with tenons patch graft.

A woman in her early 20s underwent bilateral photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) for correction of myopia. She developed bilateral central corneal melt 3 weeks post-operatively. There was no response to oral antivirals (for presumed necrotising stromal keratitis) and oral steroids (for presumed immune-mediated melt). She gradually developed pigmented corneal infiltrates and microbiology revealed a fungal infection. Despite intensive antifungal therapy, she developed corneal perforations. After applying tissue adhesive as a temporary measure, she was referred for further management. Bilateral Ten…

Granulomatosis with polyangiitis presenting as axial proptosis and corneal perforation-a case report.

BACKGROUND: Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) is a rare, aggressive, and rapidly progressive multisystem disease that primarily affects the respiratory tract, kidneys, and vascular system. Although less common, GPA can affect the eye through corneal involvement, scleral inflammation, and orbital mass formation. This report highlights a case in which sudden axial proptosis and corneal perforation revealed underlying GPA. CASE PRESENTATION: A 32-year-old female presented with a 20-day history of painful left eye proptosis, purulent discharge, photophobia, and progressive vision loss, which…

Case Report: Corneal perforation secondary to orbital cellulitis caused by Streptococcus pseudoporcinus infection.

INTRODUCTION: This report described a rare case of corneal perforation secondary to orbital cellulitis caused by Streptococcus pseudoporcinus (S. pseudoporcinus) infection. To the best of our knowledge, only six cases of S. pseudoporcinus infection have been reported. This case report suggested that S. pseudoporcinus infection was contagious and potentially life threatening. The report emphasized the value of managing infections early to avoid serious consequences. CASE DESCRIPTION: A patient with orbital cellulitis, which progressed to corneal perforation was admitted to the hospital for rig…
