From Inflammation to Malignancy: Diagnosing Ocular Adnexal Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma Beyond Dacryocystitis.

This case report discusses a 16-year-old male patient with a history of recurrent allergic rhinitis and sinusitis, who initially presented with left eyelid swelling, proptosis, and progressive facial edema extending from the left medial canthus to the nasal bridge. He was treated for nearly a year under the working diagnosis of chronic left dacryocystitis with multiple courses of topical, oral, and intravenous antibiotics. However, the patient developed worsening proptosis, progressive left-sided vision loss, and left submandibular lymphadenopathy, which ultimately guided the diagnostic focus …

Small Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma Presenting as Recurrent Dacryocystitis: Case Report of a Rare Entity.

An 84-year-old man presented with a localized, firm, tender mass over the right lacrimal sac. He had a history of acute dacryocystitis in the same eye 6 months before presentation, which resolved with antibiotics followed by uneventful dacryocystorhinostomy. At repeat presentation, the patient underwent orbital imaging and excisional biopsy of the lesion. Histologic studies revealed a small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma. The patient was subsequently treated with chemotherapy and radiation. Although there are rare reports of small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma originating in the sino-orbital-la…

Outcome of transcanalicular laser dacryocystorhinostomy with endonasal augmentation in acute versus post-acute dacryocystitis.

OBJECTIVE: To study the outcomes of transcanalicular laser dacryocystorhinostomy (TCL-DCR) with endonasal augmentation in acute versus post-acute dacryocystitis and compare it with external DCR in post-acute settings. METHODS: A prospective, randomised study was conducted in 90 adult cases of Acute dacryocystitis. All the patients were started on systemic antibiotics and a 4 mm × 4 mm osteotomy was created using TCL-DCR. The osteotomy was enlarged to 8 mm × 8 mm by endonasal augmentation at the same sitting in group 1, after 10 days in group 2 and after 10 days with external DCR in group 3. T…

Stenotrophomonas maltophilia-Associated Dacryocystitis in Leukemia-Infiltrated Lacrimal Sacs: Case and Review of Literature.

A 91-year-old female with a history of chronic lymphocytic leukemia developed recurrent bouts of bilateral dacryocystitis. She underwent incision and drainage of the lacrimal sac with culture demonstrating the rare bacteria Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. She underwent subsequent dacryocystectomy with biopsy revealing bilateral involvement of chronic lymphocytic leukemia in the lacrimal sac. Stenotrophomonas maltophilia has been associated with immune suppression and is rarely seen in dacryocystitis. Local and/or systemic immune deregulation or suppression may play a role in lacrimal sac infecti…

[Domestic 1.44 mcm Nd:YAG laser in combined treatment of dacryocystitis complicated by abscess formation].

We have treated 12 patients with acute dacryocystitis complicated by abscess formation. All the patients were examined by an ophthalmologist and otolaryngologist. The patients received intravenous antibiotics followed by Nd:YAG laser dacryocystorhinostomy via transcanalicular approach under the endonasal endoscopic control. The treatment resulted in resolution of symptoms and signs of acute dacryocystitis complicated by abscess formation in all the patients. No recurrence of acute dacryocystitis occurred during the median follow-up period of 11 months. Ostium patency defined as the absence of …

Acute dacryocystitis: an unusual cause of life-threatening orbital intraconal abscess with frozen globe.

An 84-year-old woman developed a markedly proptotic right eye with external ophthalmoplegia and displacement of the globe into the superotem … iopsy specimen showed only chronic nongranulomatous inflammation. This case demonstrates that acute dacryocystitis may cause an intraconal orbital abscess with proptosis and complete external ophthalmoplegia, and represent a sight- and life-threatening condition.

Pediatric Acute Dacryocystitis and Orbital Cellulitis With Concurrent COVID-19 Infection: A Case Report.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Acute dacryocystitis and orbital cellulitis are conditions with serious implications, particularly among pediatric patients. The co-occurrence of these conditions in children is rare, and their association with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection introduces a unique dimension. We present the case of a five-year-old boy who presented to the pediatric emergency department with left periorbital swelling, erythema, and excessive tearing. He had a history of low-grade fever and rhinorrhea, raising concerns about COVID-19. Upon physical examination, we observed significant periorbital swel…

Plasmacytoma of the nasolacrimal duct simulating dacryocystitis: an uncommon presentation for extramedullary relapse of multiple myeloma.

The most common site for localized forms of plasma cell neoplasms (extramedullary plasmacytoma; EMP) is the upper respiratory tract, includi … ng a rare entity, EMP of the NLD should be considered in the differential diagnosis of epiphora and dacryocystitis. To our knowledge, this is the first case of a plasmacytoma of the NLD presenting as isolated extramedullary relapse of MM. The follow-up in EMPs should include appropriate imaging studies, a systemic workup to rule out MM.
