OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the fabrication trueness and adaptation of additively manufactured denture bases made from different resins and postprocessed with different cleaning solutions.
METHODS: An edentulous maxillary model was scanned to design a reference denture base file. This reference file was used to fabricate 96 denture bases from three resins (DB, DentaBASE; DT, Denturetec; FD, FREEPRINT Denture) that were cleaned with four solutions (MES, Weiton-3D Resin Cleaner; WBS, Print Cleaning Concentrate; BDS, Cleaning Fluid Bio; isopropyl alcohol [IPA]) (n = 8). All bases were scanned for di

This report of four clinical cases aims to illustrate the use of a lateral implant as a solution for implant overdentures in the mandible in different clinical situations. The first two cases describe the clinical situations of patients wearing two-implant mandibular overdentures until the failure of one of the implants, one due to implant loss and the other due to a fracture of an abutment screw, and how the conditions were managed. The third case illustrates the placement of a single implant to retain an overdenture, where a midline implant, as originally planned, was not feasible due to ana

Cast cobalt-chromium clasps, long and short, tapered and untapered, were studied. It is shown that the behaviour of apparently identical clasps is inconsistent. Permanent deformation appears to commence during the first month of wear, and after 6 months' wear the retentive quality of almost all of the clasps is impaired.

The alveolar ridge (of upper and lower jaw) serves as a supporting tissue for the teeth. This function disappears after natural dentition has been extracted. Even so, the alveolar ridge remains very important, serving as it does to support and give retention to dentures. However, after removal of the natural dentition alveolar ridge reduction occurs, initially at a fairly rapid rate, slowing down later, but in an ever-continuing process, which, particularly in the long run, may have unpleasant consequences. As many factors may affect this reduction process unfavourably, it is very difficult to

BACKGROUND: Residual ridge resorption is crucial sequelae of tooth loss. Complete dentures are the most common way of rehabilitating edentulous patients. However, with continuing residual ridge resorption, dentures tend to become loose and unstable causing discomfort, chewing disability, and speech problems. Denture relining is an economical means of improving a denture's stability and retention. An understanding of the clinical indications and limitations of these materials and procedures is crucial for clinical success.
AIM AND OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this survey was to assess knowledge,

PURPOSE: To assess oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) and patient satisfaction with a three-implant-retained mandibular overdenture.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this randomized crossover clinical trial, 20 edentulous patients received a new set of conventional complete dentures (CDs; baseline). Subsequently, three implants were placed in the anterior mandible: two were placed in the canine regions bilaterally and one in the midline. After successful osseointegration, CDs were attached to the implants using resilient attachments. The overdenture was retained either by three implants (t

In contemporary implant and prosthodontic practice, high levels of surgical and biologic success rates have been achieved. However, mechanical and technical complications continue to exist. Of these, one of the biggest challenges to the clinician is the conservative retrieval of fractured screw fragments from within the implants and/or abutments. While removal is desirable, the fragments cannot always be removed, and alternative solutions for the management of such clinical situations must be considered. This clinical report describes the replacement of 2 fractured, irretrievable, Locator abut

Residual ridge resorption (RRR) is an inevitable physiological process occurring after the extraction of teeth. The annual rate of resorption is thought to be more in the mandible as compared to the maxilla leading to loss of support and retention in the mandibular conventional prosthesis. The compromised retention and stability of conventional dentures in the mandible lead to the denial of a patient to wear the prosthesis. Rehabilitation of resorbed ridges using implant-supported prosthesis has led to enhanced retention and an increase in chewing efficiency, leading to better acceptance of pr

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: The spatial relationship between the foveae palatinae and vibrating lines varies among individuals; such variability could be related to the contour of the palate.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relative location of the foveae palatinae and vibrating lines and to determine the correlation between the seal area of the posterior palate and the palatal contour with lateral cephalogram radiography.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Fifty participants were examined. The Valsalva maneuver was used to determine the anterior vibrating line, and the phonation ('ah

Different prosthetic treatment plans for three patients with variable degrees of acquired maxillofacial defects were reported and analyzed. Combined extraoral-intraoral prostheses were selected to restore the three cases. Two patients were rehabilitated using two separated prostheses, while the third one was restored with a coupled two-unit prosthesis. The design of extraoral-intraoral prosthesis either separated or connected, is influenced by the condition and nature of the residual tissues, defect configuration, patient needs, degree of tissue damage and the anticipated success rate or compl

Fabrication of conventional complete dentures was one of the most commonly advised treatment options to mange edentulous patients since many years. One of the commonly encountered challenging tasks in prosthodontics is a clinical situation in which patients have maxillary completely edentulous arches opposing mandibular natural dentition. This situation can be effectively managed by retaining some of the natural teeth as overdenture abutments. Tooth supported overdenture retained by attachments will improve retention, support and stability, and reduces rate of ridge resorption along with psych
