Development of a curriculum for interdisciplinary e-learning on delirium in nursing homes-a modified Delphi study.

BACKGROUND: Health care professionals (HCPs) in nursing homes, such as nurses and general practitioners (GPs), indicate a need for delirium-specific education. However, establishing educational interventions in the nursing home setting is challenging. e-learning is one method of compensating for these difficulties. Therefore, this study aims to develop a curriculum for interdisciplinary e-learning to improve delirium-specific knowledge in HCPs in nursing homes. METHODS: Delirium-specific competencies were formulated on the basis of exploratory setting-independent literature. The competencies

The coronavirus pandemic: Accessible technology for education, employment, and livelihoods.

During the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, the use of technology to continue societal functions, maintain daily living, and gather information became near ubiquitous overnight. In the United States, universities moved to remote online education, non-essential personnel were asked to work from home, many businesses were forced to rapidly embrace online purchasing and even entertainers held concerts on social media platforms. Professional medical personnel, as well as state and local officials, held daily press briefings about the virus on television, radio, and social media. Disaster research has sh

Emergency Remote Education, Family Support and the Digital Divide in the Context of the COVID-19 Lockdown.

To contain the COVID-19 pandemic, governments all over the world implemented strong lockdown measures to a large part of the population, including the closing of educational centres. Teachers were urged to transform their teaching methodology, moving from a face-to-face model to an emergency remote education (ERE) model, characterised by the use of technologies to continue with lectures and maintain the physical distance with the students. The aim of the present study was to analyse the existence of socio-digital inequalities and the educational challenges posed by the development of an ERE mo

Clinical anatomy remote learning: A mixed methods analysis of learning outcomes and student perceptions.

The COVID-19 pandemic provided a unique opportunity to assess remote Clinical Anatomy. Conversion of the donor dissection laboratory to asynchronous videos, combined with synchronous laboratory review and lecture, provided an alternative to face-to-face (F2F) learning. Two cohorts, 2019 (n = 104) and 2020 (n = 102), of dental and physician assistant (PA) students received F2F and remote instruction, respectively. Summative assessment items and low-stakes exam scores from both cohorts were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis tests with Dunn's post hoc analysis. The Clinical Anatomy Online Survey was

Understanding the lived experience of student-recorded video assessments in undergraduate nursing education during the COVID-19 pandemic: A pilot study.

PURPOSE: In-person delivery of courses requiring the assessment of physical psychomotor skills was severely impacted during the COVID-19 pandemic. To compensate, nursing educators implemented emergency procedures to rapidly transition from a traditional, in-person delivery to a remote format. The purpose of this pilot study was to better understand the perspective of undergraduate nursing students and their instructors' lived experiences regarding student-recorded video assessments during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: Six participants (four students, two instructors) were interviewed using

A Qualitative Evaluation of an Online Expert-Facilitated Course on Tobacco Dependence Treatment.

Qualitative evaluations of courses prove difficult due to low response rates. Online courses may permit the analysis of qualitative feedback provided by health care providers (HCPs) during and after the course is completed. This study describes the use of qualitative methods for an online continuing medical education (CME) course through the analysis of HCP feedback for the purpose of quality improvement. We used formative and summative feedback from HCPs about their self-reported experiences of completing an online expert-facilitated course on tobacco dependence treatment (the Training Enhanc

Twinning International Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship Programs: A Transformative Educational Experience for Trainees with Potential for Global Adoption.

Over the last decade, having endured the COVID-19 pandemic, education and training in pediatric cardiology have undergone a profound disruptive transformation. Trainees experience considerable stress achieving all the competencies required to become a competent pediatric cardiologist. Often the quality of the training experienced by trainees, the approach to patients, and potential institutional preference in management strategy is heavily influenced by the center in which they train. We developed an online live twin program of education between Texas Children's Hospital, Houston, Texas and Ch

Mobile education builds resilience during shocks in five countries.

Education systems need to withstand frequent shocks, including disease and climate events, which close schools for more than 222 million children1. During these emergencies, alternative models are needed to deliver education. However, rigorous evaluation of effective educational approaches in these settings is challenging and rare, especially across multiple countries. Here we present results from five randomized trials in India, Kenya, Nepal, the Philippines and Uganda to evaluate the provision of education in emergency settings. We test multiple scalable models of remote targeted tutoring in

Online Education Is Non-Inferior to Group Education for Irritable Bowel Syndrome: A Randomized Trial and Patient Preference Trial.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Structured education can reduce symptoms in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), but the availability of such interventions is limited and online formats could facilitate their dissemination. We compared the effectiveness of Internet-delivered vs face-to-face education in patients with IBS, hypothesizing that the online format would not be inferior. METHODS: We conducted 2 trials of Internet-delivered vs face-to-face group education (3 weeks) at a gastroenterology outpatient clinic in Sweden. In the first trial, 141 patients with IBS were assigned randomly (1:1) to

Technology approaches to digital health literacy.

Digital health literacy is an extension of health literacy and uses the same operational definition, but in the context of technology. Technology solutions have the potential to both promote health literacy or be a barrier. To be effective, health technology solutions should go beyond building literacy and numeracy skills to functional and critical skills, such as navigating the healthcare system, communication with healthcare providers, and shared decision making. New and emerging technologies are highlighted: AI/machine learning, voice first, remote patient monitoring, wearables, and apps an
