A beclomethasone dipropionate (BDP) enema and a BDP/mesalazine combination enema (containing 2 mg BDP and 1 g mesalazine and 2 mg BDP, respectively per 40 ml) were formulated. BDP and mesalazine were suspended in a carbomer-water gel. Carcinoma of the colon presenting before puberty is rare and few cases have been recorded in radiological literature. The symptomatology is usually vague but may be similar to the classical presentation of adults. The barium enema will also show the same constricting lesions. Two cases are reported, in one of which the initial diagnosis was made by ultrasound.

The barium enema (BE) may be useful in the diagnosis of atypical appendicitis in children. We analyzed our experience with 18 children in whom appendicitis was suspected and BE was performed. All of the children underwent surgical exploration. Nonfilling of the appendix with cecal indentation, extravasation of barium from the appendix, or both, were considered positive signs of an inflamed appendix on BE. Thirty-one small bowel enema (SBE) examinations performed in children over a four-year period have been reviewed. Thirteen of the patients had had a recent conventional barium follow-through (CBFT) examination resulting in a diagnostic dilemma.
