Samples of Cryptosporidium spp., collected in a cross-sectional study of calves (median age 26 days) from 41 farms in Cheshire, UK, underwent molecular typing. The aim was to determine naturally occurring species/genotypes and to investigate transmission pathways within a local area. Of 60 positive samples, 54 were sequenced at an 18S rRNA locus and 51 were typed at a GP60 locus. The aim of this study was to estimate the incidence and outcome of obstetric hysterectomy. Of 48,865 women who delivered after 24 weeks' gestation in the South East Thames Region between March 1997 and February 1998, 22 women with obstetric hysterectomy were identified, and 15 prospectively followed-up (71% response rate). The incidence of obstetric hysterectomy was 0.45/1,000 deliveries with one maternal death (4.5%). Following a school-based measles-rubella vaccination campaign in November 1994, enhanced surveillance of measles, including IgM antibody testing of oral fluid from clinically diagnosed case-patients, was introduced in England and Wales. The records of 38 patients under 25 years of age presenting with pineal tumours between 1968 and 1993, identified from the Northern Region Children's and Young Adults' Malignant Disease Registry, were analysed retrospectively with regards to clinical presentation, diagnostic approach, treatment strategy, and outcome.
