Pharmacogenetic tests can identify the role of genetic factors in the inter-individual variability of drug responsiveness. We have reviewed 185 articles published since 1966 to assess the scientific evidence for methods of treatment for lateral epicondylitis of the elbow. Of the 185 articles, 78 discussed treatment, but since the natural history of the syndrome is uncertain we considered only those series with concurrent control groups. A series of 43 patients with mycosis fungoides in Stages 1A (17), IB (22), II (2), and III (2) were treated with an ointment-based mechlorethamine, prepared by an anhydrous method. Sixty-two patients suffering from severe Ménière's disease with invalidating vertigo attacks were treated between 1976 and 1987 by three minoir surgical procedures: sacculotomy (19), cochleo-sacculotomy (15) or a transtympanic ventilation tube (28). We prospectively evaluated 1600 patients undergoing colonoscopy at Virginia Mason Medical Center from December 1, 1986 to November 31, 1987.
