Extramammary Paget's disease of the groin with underlying carcinoma and fatal outcome.

Extramammary Paget's disease (EMPD) is considered to be an intraepithelial adenocarcinoma. Typically involved anatomical sites are the vulvar, perianal, perineal, scrotal and penile regions. Clinically, the lesions present as well-defined, moist, erythematous plaques usually accompanied by pruritus. An unusual feature of EMPD is its association with cutaneous, adnexal-structure adenocarcinomas and its association with internal malignancies. Histopathological examination shows epidermal acanthosis and elongated rete ridges. Paget's cells are large intraepidermal cells with a large nucleous and

Postoperative fulminant varicella zoster virus hepatitis with fatal outcome: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Fulminant hepatitis due to varicella zoster virus (VZV) infection has a poor prognosis although an effective treatment is available. CASE REPORT: We present a case of fulminant hepatic failure (FHF) as a result of disseminated VZV infection in a long-term alcoholic patient who underwent laryngectomy and radical neck dissection due to squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx. Post-mortem examination revealed the diagnosis of fulminant hepatitis and infection with VZV. Viral inclusion bodies were found in the hypopharyngeal mucosa as well as in the liver tissue. In these tissues VZV

[Fatal outcome after postexposure rabies vaccination in a patient with Parkinson's disease].

INTRODUCTION: In Serbia and Montenegro postexposure rabies vaccination is performed using five doses of rabies vaccine with a potency of 2.5 I.U. It is given on 0, 3rd, 7th, 14th and 28th day, combined with human rabies immunoglobulin with the first dose. Modern rabies vaccines produced in cell cultures rarely cause neurologic complications, among which Guillain-Barre syndrome and parkinsonism. CASE REPORT: The authors report a case of a 78-year-old woman with a documented five-year history of Parkinson's disease, who was bitten by a rabid cat. Twelve hours later, when the rabies infection of

Fatal maternal outcome of a parturient with Eisenmenger's syndrome and severe preeclampsia.

Eisenmenger's syndrome in pregnancy is associated with a high maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. When it occurs with severe preeclampsia, the morbidity and mortality are higher. We report the case of a 30 weeks' pregnant woman with Eisenmenger's syndrome and severe preeclampsia. Cesarean section was performed due to severe preeclampsia and an unfavorable cervix under general anesthesia. The intraoperative period was uneventful and a healthy 1300 g male infant was delivered, but the patient died on the second postoperative day due to a pulmonary embolism. This case confirms the frequen

A case of rhabdomyolysis with fatal outcome after a treatment with levofloxacin.

Fluoroquinolones are known to cause rhabdomyolysis. Levofloxacin is a recent fluoroquinolone and its muscular toxicity is not well documented. We describe the case of a 77-year-old female patient, who presented with an acute rhabdomyolysis after treatment with levofloxacin. She had a background of serious cardio-pulmonary disease. She received an oral ambulatory treatment with levofloxacin for pulmonary infection. After 6 days, she presented with severe rhabdomyolysis, resulting in complete anuria with hyperkalaemia, complicated with acute liver cytolysis and respiratory failure. The treatment

Fatal outcome of Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae bacteremia in a patient with oropharyngeal cancer.

Bacteremia due to Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae is rare; the most common presentation reported in the literature is endocarditis. We report a … onized with E. rhusiopathiae in the oral cavity, followed by aspiration pneumonia and bacteremia. A fatal outcome in a patient with bacteremia due to E. rhusiopathiae without endocarditis is rare.

[Hemoptysis in sarcoidosis. Apropos of 6 cases including 4 with fatal outcome].

Haemoptysis rarely occurs in sarcoidosis. Most cases usually occur in patients with advanced disease and major fibrosis. We observed 6 cases including 5 with fibrosis and 1 with inaugural unilateral lymph node involvement. Haemoptysis is a sign of gravity since it is the second most frequent cause of death described in the literature. In our series 4 of the 6 cases were fatal. Aspergillus colonization of a cavity is the most frequently found aggravating factor. Ideally, surgery is indicated but usually cannot be performed due to the patients respiratory function and the extent of the lesions.

[Multicentric reticulohistiocytosis (lipoid dermato-arthritis). Apropos of a case with fatal outcome].

The authors report the case of a 37-year-old man affected by a seronegative polyarthritis associated at first with erythroderma and then with cutaneous and subcutaneous papulo-nodular structures and a xanthomatous eryption. Histological examination of the cutaneous nodules and of the synovial membrane confirmed the diagnosis of multicentred reticulohistiocytosis by showing the presence of lipid infiltrates in the histiocyte cells and of multinucleate giant cells. A study of the ultrastructure of the histiocytes revealed the presence of numerous intracytoplasmic vacuoles. In spite of antimalari
