Simultaneous avulsions of the tibial tubercle and patellar ligament have been reported, but are rare. We present an 11-year-old boy who was initially diagnosed with a Type IIIA tibial tubercle avulsion fracture after falling off of his bicycle. Intraoperatively, following exposure and fixation of the tibial tubercle fragment, knee range of motion under live fluoroscopy revealed a stationary patella with no tension in the patellar ligament. The incision was extended and a distal avulsion of the patellar ligament from the tibial tubercle was identified, with a small flap of tibial tubercle perio

BACKGROUND: Lag screw fixation commonly is used to treat avulsion fractures of the posterior calcaneal tuberosity, but this method may not offer reliable fixation. This study compared the strength to failure of lag screws compared to lag screw fixation augmented with suture anchors in these fractures.
METHODS: The calcanei and Achilles tendons of 12 fresh lower extremity cadaver matched pairs were dissected and removed. An oblique osteotomy was created in the calcaneus, and two 4.0-mm lag screws were placed nearly perpendicular to the plane of the fracture in the dorsal aspect of the calcaneu

INTRODUCTION: During the treatment of a malunited transverse acetabular fracture, a hitherto undescribed extended avulsion of the labrum from the stable acetabular fragment was found. Based on the labral pathomorphology present in this case, the hypothesis was put forward that traumatic acetabular labral avulsions are a constant phenomenon in transverse acetabular fractures.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Fourteen patients underwent capsulotomy and/or surgical dislocation of the involved hip to facilitate open reduction and internal fixation of transverse acetabular fractures.
RESULTS: In all cases,

Isolated anterior cruciate ligament avulsion fractures of the tibial eminence are uncommon in orthopaedic practice. These injuries were traditionally treated with open reduction and internal fixation, but arthrotomy-related morbidity has led to an increased use of arthroscopic techniques. Consequently, arthroscopic fixation techniques have gained popularity because of reduced surgical morbidity. In this article, we describe a simple arthroscopic procedure that ensures near-anatomic reduction with even circumferential compression and no fracture fragment lift-off.

PRESENTATION: Ischial tuberosity avulsion fractures account for a minority of pelvic apophyseal injuries in adolescents but are frequently misdiagnosed as hamstring strains. We report one case of delayed diagnosis following a Gaelic Football Injury.
DIAGNOSIS: A male teenaged footballer player developed persistent right buttock pain after kicking the ball at full sprint. Initial management was conservative for presumed hamstring strain. After two years of persistent pain and inability to sprint, he was referred for an Orthopaedic opinion. He had persistent focal bone tenderness over the ischi

A middle-aged man presented with a history of high-energy trauma with no open wounds, sustaining ipsilateral intertrochanteric and distal femur fractures with a patellar lower pole avulsion fracture. The patient underwent short proximal femoral nailing for intertrochanteric fracture, open reduction and internal fixation with plating for distal femur fracture and patellar tendon repair through transosseous tunnels in the patella.A precise clinical and radiological diagnosis followed by early management by internal osteosynthesis and early and adapted functional rehabilitation made it possible t

Accessory ossicles of the wrist are uncommon bone variants that can be mistaken for avulsion fractures, potentially leading to unnecessary tests, procedures, and radiation exposure. We report a case of a 19-year-old male who presented after a motor vehicle collision with bilateral wrist pain and swelling. Radiographs of the right wrist were normal. Imaging of the left wrist demonstrated a small, oval ossicle located between the triquetrum and the ulnar styloid process. The ossicle displayed smooth cortical margins, a preserved cortical-medullary ratio, and a distinct radiolucent gap from adjac

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to analyze the efficacy of U-shaped internal fixation for calcaneal tubercle fracture after nearly 3 years of case follow-up and data collection.
METHOD: We retrospectively analyzed the collected data from 16 patients with avulsion fracture of calcaneal tubercle between December 2018 and February 2021 at our institute. All patients were required to conform to regular follow up postoperatively. X-ray film was applied to all cases. The American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Association (AOFAS) score, Cedell score and the visual analog scale (VAS) were used

Avulsion fractures of the extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU) insertion are rare injuries that are poorly described in the literature. Several case reports detail closed ECU ruptures, however, only one previous case report describes an ECU avulsion fracture from the insertion on the fifth metacarpal base in the setting of multiple wrist and hand injuries. To our knowledge, we present the only case report of an isolated ECU avulsion fracture. In our case, a 35-year-old female presented with ulnar-sided wrist pain after forcefully impacting a steering wheel while radially deviating her wrist. She was d

BACKGROUND AND AIM OF WORK: Tibial tubercle avulsion fractures (TTAF) are uncommon condition in children and adolescents. These lesions may be misdiagnosed and consequently not properly treated. Reduction and fixation is indicated if displacement is higher than 2mm or if the extensor apparatus is damaged. Authors present a case of a TTAF associated with a complete lateral patellar retinaculum lesion in a 13-year-old male adolescent non-professional basketball player.
METHODS: Surgery consisted of reduction and fixation with 2 half threaded cancellous and washers; TTA was then basted and reinf

Proximal humerus lesser tuberosity avulsions are uncommon injuries; however, when present, they can be debilitating for patients. As such, they pose a unique clinical challenge. These fractures were traditionally treated through an open approach to the proximal humerus; however, arthroscopic techniques continue to evolve and are increasingly used for these types of injuries. We describe our minimally invasive arthroscopic technique to repair lesser tuberosity avulsions using standard arthroscopic equipment. This method is safe, efficient, and applies basic shoulder arthroscopic techniques.

INTRODUCTION: Acute hematogenous osteomyelitis in a closed fracture usually occurs pediatric and/or immunocompromised patients and only rarely in an immunocompetent patient.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 44-year-old female patient who was diagnosed as acute hematogenous osteomyelitis in a tibial plateau fracture. Following a motorcycle accident she was diagnosed as having a subdural hematoma at the right parietal lobe and combined closed fracture of the left tibial plateau and avulsion of tibial tubercle. Intraoperatively a cloudy fluid was found at the fracture site of left tibi

Avulsion fracture at the site of attachment of the coracoid process of the coracoclavicular ligament (CCL) is extremely rare. We presented three adult cases of this unusual avulsion fracture associated with other injuries. Case 1 was a 25-year-old right-handed male with a left distal clavicular fracture with an avulsion fracture of the coracoid attachment of the CCL; this case was treated surgically and achieved an excellent outcome. Case 2 was a 39-year-old right-handed male with dislocation of the left acromioclavicular joint with two avulsion fractures: one at the posteromedial surface of

Terrible triad elbow injuries, consisting of fractures of the radial head and coronoid with ulnohumeral dislocation, are challenging to treat. They require a comprehensive understanding of the complex anatomy of the elbow to effectively treat all of the pathology and create a stable, congruent joint. The authors present a case of a terrible triad injury with avulsion of the triceps and flexor-pronator mass after a low-energy fall in a young patient. Although most terrible triad fracture-dislocations can be successfully treated with coronoid fixation, radial head fixation or replacement, and re

BACKGROUND: U-shaped sacral fractures or Jumper's fractures are rare injuries in adults and are even rarer in the pediatric population. These fractures share a common pathoanatomy where the pelvis as a unit together with the bilateral alar parts and the lower part of the sacrum, loses its skeletal and soft tissue connections to the remaining axial skeleton and hence the term spinopelvic dissociation. This report describes an unusual pattern of spinopelvic dissociation in a young child where the transverse process of the fifth lumbar vertebra was avulsed on one side (spinal side avulsion), wher
