A retrospective study of 245 fellow eyes of patients admitted in primary acute angle-closure glaucoma (ACG) is presented. Twenty-five (10.2%) had acute ACG in the fellow eye on presentation. Of the remaining 220, 33 (15%) subsequently developed acute ACG before prophylactic surgery was performed. Possible predisposing factors were analysed. The main findings were that acute ACG in the fellow eye occurred most frequently in hospital, or during the first month after discharge if prophylactic surgery was not performed. The instillation of mydriatics in the operated eye increased the risk to the f

PURPOSE: To identify topologic features of eyes with acute primary angle-closure glaucoma before an attack as compared with those features in normotensive cases, assuming that untreated fellow eyes of acute primary angle-closure glaucoma are candidates for an acute attack.
METHODS: A total of 50 eyes (12 fellow eyes of acute primary angle-closure glaucoma and 38 normotensive cases with a closure-possible narrow angle) were prospectively examined by ultrasound biomicroscopy under dark-room conditions. All eyes were examined before surgical or laser intervention and had normal pupillary reactio

Dengue fever presents with a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations ranging from fever, rash, myalgia to myocarditis, encephalitis, etc. However, severe ocular involvement in dengue is less frequent, but if it occurs it can have devastating and long-lasting effects such as permanent vision loss. We present the case of a 35-year-old male with dengue fever complicated by acute, painful vision loss in the right eye and was diagnosed with acute congestive glaucoma leading to panophthalmitis. Timely diagnosis and prompt intervention in the form of enucleation of the affected eye saved his vision

BACKGROUND: Previous studies on primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) primarily focused on local brain regions or global abnormal brain activity; however, the alteration of interhemispheric functional homotopy and its possible cause of brain-wide functional connectivity abnormalities have not been well-studied. Little is known about whether brain functional alteration could be used to differentiate from healthy controls (HCs) and its correlation with neurocognitive impairment.
METHODS: Forty patients with PACG and 40 age- and sex-matched healthy controls were recruited for this study; resting

Superior vena cava syndrome is a set of symptoms resulting from partial or complete blockage of the superior vena cava. In the majority of cases, it develops secondary to lung tumors and lymphoma. It is characterized by edema of the head, neck, and upper limbs, large veins, and dyspnoea. Ophthalmological changes related to the syndrome rarely occur: eyelid swelling, conjunctival chemosis and suffusion have been described previously, and in one case, elevated episcleral pressure was also reported. Our 57-year-old female patient's superior vena cava syndrome was resolved with stent placement, an

Primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) is the most common type of glaucoma in China. In recent years, lens extraction has gradually become one of the main means of PACG treatment. However, there are still some problems in specific applications. In this article, we analyze the problems and misunderstandings in lens extraction for treatment of PACG in China at present, hoping to achieve reasonable application and better serve patients with glaucoma. (Chin J Ophthalmol, 2020, 56: 9-12).

PURPOSE: PLEKHA7 and COL11A1 were genotyped for single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) to investigate the possible association of these two genes with primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) and disease severity.
METHOD: A total of 51 PACG cases and 51 normal controls were recruited. Twelve SNPs in the PLEKHA7 (rs216489, rs1027617, rs366590, rs11024060, rs6486330, rs11024097, and rs11024102) and COL11A1 (rs1676484, rs3753841, rs12138977, rs2126642, and rs2622848) genes were genotyped by direct Sanger sequencing. Distributions of allele frequencies and genotype frequencies in cases and controls,

Objective: To evaluate the preliminary efficacy and safety of penetrating canaloplasty for treating primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG). Methods: It is a prospective interventional case series study. Twenty-two patients (24 eyes) with PACG were treated with penetrating canaloplasty (video attached) at the Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University from June 2015 to August 2018. This modified canaloplasty was performed by making a window at the corneal-scleral bed. Aqueous was redirected to the opening of Schlemm's canal after the canaloplasty with intension sutures. Acute primary angle-closure (APAC) eyes show an early 'acute inflammatory' condition, while the inflammation condition has not been fully elucidated in the development of primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG). To evaluate the roles of inflammatory cytokines in the pathogenesis of PACG, this cross-sectional study involved 40 eyes of 32 PACG patients who required trabeculectomy and 24 eyes of 24 patients who required cataract surgery. The aqueous humor samples were collected at the time of surgery. Fifteen inflammatory cytokines were detected using the multiplex bead immunoassay technique, and t
