Ascitic fluid (also called ascites) is an intraperitoneal fluid extracted from mice that have developed a peritoneal tumor. For antibody production, the tumor is induced by injecting hybridoma cells into the peritoneum, which serves as a growth chamber for the cells. Many studies have demonstrated that anti-dsDNA IgG is closely associated with lupus nephritis. Recently, it was found that activation of the fibroblast growth factor-inducible 14 (Fn14) signaling pathway damages glomerular filtration barrier in MRL/lpr lupus-prone mice. Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is characterized by an accumulation of monoclonal B lymphocytes in the hematopoietic organs. Rarely, CLL cells accumulate in a single atypical site. The mechanism underlying this unusual distribution of CLL cells has not been studied previously. We obtained peripheral blood from five patients having early stage CLL with heavy prostate infiltration. To determine whether thyroid follicular epithelial cells (TFEC) might be involved in the induction of autoimmune thyroiditis, they were tested for their potential to express Ia antigens, and for their ability to present antigen in vitro.
