Attitudes to malocclusion among 18- and 35-year-old Norwegians.

Knowledge about age-related changes in attitudes to dental appearance and orthodontic treatment may guide the orthodontist in educating and providing advice to potential patients and their parents. The purpose of the present study was to compare attitudes to malocclusion in groups of young and middle-aged adults from populations having been exposed to similar provision of care. The material comprised samples of orthodontically untreated 18-yr-olds (n = 50) and 35-yr-olds (n = 73) from Oslo, Norway. From a clinical examination, radiographs, and measurements on dental study casts, the subjects w

Evaluating components of dental care utilization among adults with diabetes and matched controls via hurdle models.

BACKGROUND: About one-third of adults with diabetes have severe oral complications. However, limited previous research has investigated dental care utilization associated with diabetes. This project had two purposes: to develop a methodology to estimate dental care utilization using claims data and to use this methodology to compare utilization of dental care between adults with and without diabetes. METHODS: Data included secondary enrollment and demographic data from Washington Dental Service (WDS) and Group Health Cooperative (GH), clinical data from GH, and dental-utilization data from WD

Universal coverage for oral health care in 27 low-income countries: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Low-income countries bear a growing and disproportionate burden of oral diseases. With the World Health Organization targeting universal oral health coverage by 2030, assessing the state of oral health coverage in these resource-limited nations becomes crucial. This research seeks to examine the political and resource commitments to oral health, along with the utilization rate of oral health services, across 27 low-income countries. METHODS: We investigated five aspects of oral health coverage in low-income countries, including the integration of oral health in national health pol

[Obligation to document front tooth injuries in adolescents for forensic purposes].

Following trauma to the anterior teeth during adolescence, exact clinical and roentgenologic records of the findings as well as documentation of the direct and indirect consequences of the trauma are required for forensic, evaluatory, and insurance reasons. Regular control examinations over a period of several years are necessary, since secondary damage may only be demonstrable after a periof of one year or even longer. The use of a uniform medical examination form was recommended to improve and compare documentation of the consequences of injuries to the anterior teeth.

Cost-Effectiveness of Sealant Placement on Molars in Young Adults in the United States.

INTRODUCTION: Untreated caries can diminish quality of life and decrease productivity. About 20% of young adults aged 20 to 34 y have untreated caries, with adults living in lower-income households bearing the greatest burden. Teeth most affected with caries are molars. About 57% of molar caries occurring over 4 y could be prevented with dental sealants. At present, insurance typically covers sealants only for children and adolescents. OBJECTIVE: This study estimates the incremental cost-effectiveness (ie, net cost per averted disability-adjusted life-year; DALY) of sealing compared with not
