Seventy-one patients with glaucoma needing surgical correction had either a peripheral iridectomy with a thermal sclerostomy or a trabeculectomy utilizing a modification of Watson's technique in which the scleral flap was closed tightly with sutures. Atropine sulfate, a mydriatic and cycloplegic agent, is frequently used in patients undergoing glaucoma surgery. Trabeculectomy with peripheral iridectomy is the most common glaucoma surgery performed to decrease intraocular pressure and preserve vision. PURPOSE: To report the treatment of exudative retinal detachment in a patient with nanophthalmos.
METHODS: A 46-year-old man with bilateral nanophthalmos suffered from acute angle-closure glaucoma in his left eye. The first day after a peripheral iridectomy an exudative retinal detachment was observed. This study aims to systemically review the effect of laser iridotomy on the corneal endothelium. Searches were performed for studies that either compared corneal endothelial cell density/count, corneal thickness and morphology pre- and postiridotomy, or evaluated the postiridotomy development of corneal decompensation. BACKGROUND: Secondary angle closure glaucoma (SACG) can be quite puzzling and can challenge even an experienced glaucoma surgeon.
