T and B peripheral blood lymphocytes were evaluated in 17 patients with clinical and histological evidence of mycosis fungoides and in ten patients with benign lymphoplasias of the skin. The T subpopulation (T-Ea) characterized by a rapid rosette formation with sheep erythrocytes was also measured in these patients. A novel antigen detected by the CBF.78 monoclonal antibody (MoAb) is strongly expressed on cortical thymocytes and weakly expressed on resting peripheral T lymphocytes. Immunological indices, both T- and B-dependent, were studied in 11 patients affected by presenile Alzheimer's disease. The data obtained were compared with those from a group of normal adults of similar age and from a group of normal young subjects. In five children with measles who subsequently died and in one with measles in whom chronic bronchopneumonia developed (group A), immunosuppression was more pronounced during the acute rash (i.e., 3-20 days before death) than in six children with measles who recovered (group B). BACKGROUND: Primary effusion lymphoma (PEL) is a Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV)-related large B-cell lymphoma often affecting immunocompromised adults. However, several cases in nonimmunocompromised elderly patients have been reported. It usually occurs as a massive, serosal effusion without tumoral masses and lymphadenopathies. The most frequent diagnostic materials are cytological smears, displaying large lymphocytes with variable morphological aspects but with a specific 'null-cell' phenotype associated with the expression of KSHV-related latency-associated nuclear antigen.

Formaldehyde (FA) is a human carcinogen used as formalin in hospital laboratories. Breast-cancer-associated gene 1 (BRCA1) is highly expressed in thymus and spleen. In this paper, we have studied lymphocyte development and tumorigenesis in mice carrying mutations in Brca1 and p53. We show that the deletion of Brca1 exon 11 (Brca1-delta11), which disrupts the full-length isoform, but not the short isoform of Brca1, does not interfere with lymphocyte development.
