OBJECTIVE: In this paper, we report a case of missing posterior teeth after mandibular fibular flap grafting and implant restoration by means of a digital restorative process, in the hope that the application of digital technology will help the patient to comfortably establish an adapted occlusal relationship.
CASE REPORT: A 29-year-old male patient developed a left mandibular ameloblastoma measuring 35 mm × 35 mm × 25 mm, which did not invade the surrounding bone tissue, submandibular gland tissue, or lymph nodes. After resection of an 85 mm mandibular segment, the patient was reconstructed

Rehabilitation of an edentulous posterior mandible to restore function and arch stability can be accomplished with a removable partial denture or an implant supported fixed partial denture. If the alveolus is severely resorbed, implant placement becomes challenging due to inadequate bone and the position of the inferior alveolar nerve. This report details a situation where a mandibular fracture occurred soon after inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) transposition and simultaneous implant placement. The prosthodontic reconstruction was completed using a fixed-dental prosthesis.

Prosthodontic treatment in patients with ectodermal dysplasia (ED) is difficult to manage because of the oral deficiencies typical in this disorder and because afflicted individuals are quite young when they are evaluated for treatment. This clinical report describes an 18-year-old patient with hypohidrotic ED treated with dental implants. Treatment included a maxillary implant overdenture and a mandibular hybrid prosthesis supported by osseointegrated implants. At the one-year follow-up, the patient presented significant improvements in oral function and psychosocial activities.

Patients with microstomia who have to wear removable dental prostheses often face the difficulty of being unable to insert or remove the prosthesis because of the constricted opening of the oral cavity. This clinical report describes in detail the prosthodontic management of an edentulous patient with microstomia induced by scleroderma. Sectional-collapsible maxillary and sectional mandibular complete dentures were fabricated by means of sectional trays. With the use of palatal midline hinge and stud attachments, the sectional dentures were successfully and easily inserted and removed.

Regenerative medicine approaches to restore the mandibular condyle of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) may fill an unmet patient need. In this study, a method to implant an acellular regenerative TMJ prosthesis was developed for orthotopic implantation in a pilot goat study. The scaffold incorporated a porous, polycaprolactone-hydroxyapatite (PCL-HAp, 20wt% HAp) 3D printed condyle with a cartilage-matrix-containing hydrogel. A series of material characterizations was used to determine the structure, fluid transport, and mechanical properties of 3D printed PCL-HAp. To promote marrow uptake for

Oral squamous cell carcinomas result in significant impairment of oral function as they tend to invade bone. Bone invasion often mandates partial mandibular resection, such as hemimandibulectomy, which reduces overall quality of life. To rehabilitate such patients, fixed functional guide flanges position the mandible, improving overall masticatory ability. Custom fixed functional prostheses using digitally assisted dentistry are highly accurate. This technique uses digital technology and a digital workflow to fabricate an open-frame fixed functional guide flange prosthesis.

Traumatic fibroma is a reactive oral cavity lesion that clinically manifests as a localized, asymptomatic exophytic papule or nodule of fibrous connective tissue. Traumatic fibroma can result from constant trauma from teeth, restoration, or prosthesis. The most common areas affected by traumatic fibroma include the tongue, mandibular labial, and buccal mucosa. They do not have a risk of malignant transformation. This case report aims to shed light on the unusual clinical appearance of a traumatic fibroma on the dorsum near the tip of the tongue.

Impactions with severely dilacerated root is seldom reported, especially the maxillary incisor. It is probably because of the high clinical difficulty of bringing the dilacerated tooth into position: most patients probably would choose extraction with replacement by prosthesis instead. However, the philosophy seems to have changed recently. We report two cases one in which an impacted central incisor was brought in the arch by orthodontic traction. In the second case the impacted premolar was brought into the arch and was shaped as a mandibular canine for achieving a good functional occlusion.

Chondrosarcoma is among the most common primary bone tumors in adults. In the mandible, chondrosarcoma is a very uncommon malignant cartilage-producing tumor. This case report shows how virtual planning combined with other digital technologies may improve masticatory function rehabilitation in patients with enlarged mandibular chondrosarcoma. The present study reports a case of a 52-year-old male patient who was initially diagnosed with a mandible chondroma, which was successfully excised with no evidence of malignant transformation. Nevertheless, the patient's symptoms recurred after 10 years

Tooth autotransplantation is a procedure which provides the extraction of an erupted or impacted tooth and its repositioning to another site in the oral cavity. This Case Report describes a successful case of two autotransplantations of open-apex mandibular third molars in place of the hopeless first mandibular molars with the use of L-PRF in a growing patient. A 15-year-old male patient was referred to the Dental Clinic for the extractions of the two hopeless mandibular first molars. Autotransplantation was considered the best treatment option for both sites 36 and 46, because the presence of

Functional and esthetic reconstruction of a patient with microgenia who sustained traumatic injury was successfully accomplished using Brånemark System osseointegrated implants (Nobel Biocare USA, Inc., Yorba Linda, CA) to support a permanent dental prosthesis following mechanical and biologic reconstruction of the anterior mandible and chin. A 25-year-old glycine chin implant previously used for facial esthetic enhancement had eroded the anterior cortical plate and migrated through the medullary bone, compressing the periosteum into the apex of the anterior tooth roots. Further destruction of

Preventive dentistry is mainly concerned with caries and periodontal disease and little or no attention is paid to the prevention of alveolar bone loss. An overdenture contributes to the preservation of alveolar bone and offers a number of advantages in comparison to a conventional complete denture. After tooth extraction the atrophy of edentulous lower jaws can be prevented or delayed by using implants supporting an overdenture or a fixed mandibular prosthesis. Hydroxyapatite implants have been studied as submerged tooth root substitutes and have proven to be able to preserve the bulk of the …

BACKGROUND: Fibula Jaw-in-a-Day (JIAD) is considered the most advanced approach for segmental mandibular defect reconstruction and dental rehabilitation. However, it has limitations and challenges for further pursuit. We propose Fibula Jaw-during-Admission (JDA) as a solution.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: From 2019 to 2021, six patients received fibula "Jaw-during-Admission." Segmental mandibulectomy, fibula transfer, and immediate dental implantation were performed simultaneously during a single surgery. Intraoral scans were used to fabricate temporary light occlusion contact dental prostheses whi

Traditionally acrylic resin gingival veneer prostheses have been used to disguise aesthetic deficiencies of maxillary anterior teeth following successful periodontal therapy and have been retained by engaging horizontal undercuts distal to the canine teeth. They are, however, versatile prostheses with uses in fixed and removable prosthodontics and therapeutic treatment of gingival conditions. In the case presented a small acrylic resin gingival veneer prosthesis retained by a resilient lining material was used to manage a localised periodontal defect of the mandibular central incisor teeth.
