BACKGROUND: A Phase II study was performed to investigate the efficacy and tolerability of paclitaxel and ifosfamide chemotherapy for the treatment of anthracycline-resistant metastatic breast carcinoma (MBC).
METHODS: Recurrent or progressed MBC within 12 months after anthracycline-based chemotherapy was defined as anthracycline-resistant. A 24-hour infusion of paclitaxel (175 mg/m(2)) on Day 1 and subsequent infusions of ifosfamide (1.8 g/m(2)/day) with mesna (360 mg/m(2)/day) on Days 2- 4, were performed every 3 weeks. The definition of malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) was modified and simplified in the new WHO-Soft Tissue and Bone Tumor Classification published in 2002. We reviewed the clinical courses of 7 patients with MFH of the retroperitoneum treated in our hospital from 1985 to 2005 and reexamined their pathological diagnoses according to the new classification. RATIONALE: Ameloblastoma is generally characterized as a benign tumor originating in odontogenic epithelium. However, few cases of metastatic malignant ameloblastoma have also been reported. Due to the low incidence of malignant ameloblastoma, there is no established treatment regimen. To explore effective treatment for malignant ameloblastoma, we reported this case study.

Ifosfamide and mitomycin C are two of the more active single agents in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This study evaluates these drugs in combination followed by radiotherapy. Thirty patients with symptomatic, progressive squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix no longer amenable to surgery or radiotherapy were entered in a phase II study of ifosfamide (IFX). PURPOSE OF INVESTIGATION: A retrospective study to evaluate six cycles of cisplatin 40 mg/m2 on day 1 and ifosfamide 1,200 mg/m2 daily on days 1 to 4 with Mesna every four weeks as first line treatment for 29 patients with a diagnosis of uterine carcinosarcoma.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 23 of 29 patients received high dose rate intracavitary vaginal cuff brachytherapy (VCBT) with two fractions of seven Gy each. Median age was 65 years (range 40-82); 13 (44.8%) had Stage I disease, three (10.3%) had Stage II, eight (27.6%) had Stage III, and five (17.2%) patients had Stage IV disease.

A prospective evaluation of high-dose ifosfamide (IFO)-related nephrotoxicity in adults and young adults previously treated with cisplatin, methotrexate (MTX) and standard-dose IFO was performed.
