We describe two variants of benign para-aortic lymph nodal inclusions that mimic squamous cell carcinoma. The first, a decidual reaction, occurred in a 27-year-old pregnant woman with squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix. The second, a squamous metaplasia of ectopic müllerian-type glands, was present in a 63-year-old woman with squamous cell carcinoma of the anus. Fifty-six surgical specimens with various ulcerative intestinal disorders were microscopically investigated for evidence of gastric gland metaplasia. Thiry-one specimens (55-4%) showed pyloric gland metaplasia. A case of combined squamous and intestinal metaplasia of the renal pelvis, associated with hydronephrosis, chronic pyelonephritis, and lithiasis, is reported. The changes are considered to be due primarily to mechanical irritation of the pelvic epithelium.

Esophageal epidermoid metaplasia (EEM) is a rare condition characterized by well-demarcated leukoplakia affecting the middle-to-distal esophagus.
