[Descriptive analysis of episodes of atmospheric pollution occurring in Paris between 1969 and 1976 and their consequences on daily mortality].

Simultaneous evolution of daily data collected in Paris (1969-1976) concerning mortality on the one hand, and pollution and meteorology on the other hand, is described during two specific episodes: the first, observed in december 1969, is a high mortality one, due to an influenza epidemic; the other, observed in december 72-january 73, is related to high pollution levels. Mortality data are specified using daily-rate of death, according to diagnosis and age-range. Chosen pollutants are acidity and smoke. Meteorological conditions are identified by synoptic data and local parameters (pressure,

[Variation of helminthiasis incidence in Reunion as a function of different parameters].

Four years after Picot's experiments on parasitic diseases in Réunion Island, and after a large sanitation campaign, the authors valued the effect of this campaign on parasitic incidence. They showed that it had significantly decreased. At the same time, they pointed out the leading part of water quality in parasitic incidence; particularly, they showed that there are twice less Ascaridiasis when water is bacteriologically and chemically safe.

Ambient air pollution and meteorological factors associated with hand, foot, and mouth disease risk in Shenzhen, China: a time-series study.

BACKGROUND: In China, hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) persists as a prevalent infectious disease with high transmissibility. Nevertheless, the link between environmental determinants and HFMD incidence has not been fully elucidated. The study assessed associations between air pollution, meteorological conditions, and HFMD incidence in Shenzhen, China, while also evaluating shifts in these associations before and after the Enterovirus 71 vaccine and during the COVID-19 epidemic. METHODS: Daily data on HFMD cases, air pollutants (such as PM2.5, PM10, SO2, NO2, CO, and O3), and meteorologic

Impact of Meteorological Factors on Elderly Influenza in Shenzhen and Beijing From 2017 to 2024: A Time Series Study.

China's heterogeneous climatic conditions and geographic complexity contribute to distinct influenza patterns between northern and southern regions, complicating incidence prediction. Utilizing real-world data, this study aimed to characterize the epidemiology of influenza among elderly populations in Shenzhen and Beijing (representative southern and northern cities) and evaluate the impact of meteorological factors on influenza risk. Laboratory-confirmed influenza cases in individuals aged ≥ 60 years were obtained from China's National Notifiable Infectious Disease Surveillance System (Januar

Short-term effects of meteorological factors on hand, foot, and mouth disease in Zhengzhou, China.

Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) demonstrates distinct seasonal patterns in high-incidence regions, highlighting the growing interest in the relationship between meteorological factors and disease transmission. Nevertheless, findings across different geographic areas remain highly heterogeneous. Data on HFMD cases in Zhengzhou City from 2009 to 2023 were obtained from the Zhengzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention, while meteorological data were sourced from the National Meteorological Data Sharing Service System. Distributed lag nonlinear models (DLNM) was employed to quantify th

Modification effects of long-term air pollution levels on the relationship between short-term exposure to meteorological factors and hand, foot, and mouth disease: A distributed lag non-linear model-based study in Shandong Province, China.

The occurrence of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is closely related to meteorological factors. However, location-specific characteristics, such as persistent air pollution, may increase the complexity of the impact of meteorological factors on HFMD, and studies across different areas and populations are largely lacking. In this study, a two-stage multisite time-series analysis was conducted using data from 16 cities in Shandong Province from 2015 to 2019. In the first stage, we obtained the cumulative exposure-response curves of meteorological factors and the number of HFMD cases for eac

Dual-attention-based recurrent neural network for hand-foot-mouth disease prediction in Korea.

Hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) is a viral disease that occurs primarily in children. Meteorological factors have a significant impact on its popularity annually in Korea. This study proposes a new HFMD prediction model using a dual-attention-based recurrent neural network (DA-RNN) and important weather factors for HFMD in Korea. First, suspected cases of HFMD in each state were predicted using meteorological factors from the DA-RNN. Second, the weather factors were divided into six categories: temperature, wind, rainfall, day length, humidity, and air pollution to conduct sensitivity analysis.

Prevalence of tick-borne encephalitis virus in questing Ixodes ricinus nymphs in southern Scandinavia and the possible influence of meteorological factors.

Ixodes ricinus ticks are Scandinavia's main vector for tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV), which infects many people annually. The aims of the present study were (i) to obtain information on the TBEV prevalence in host-seeking I. ricinus collected within the Øresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak (ØKS) region, which lies in southern Norway, southern Sweden and Denmark; (ii) to analyse whether there are potential spatial patterns in the TBEV prevalence; and (iii) to understand the relationship between TBEV prevalence and meteorological factors in southern Scandinavia. Tick nymphs were collected in 2016,

Longitudinal modelling of respiratory symptoms in children.

A panel of 277 children, aged 3-7 years, was used to study the association between air pollution (O(3), SO(2), NO(2), and total suspended particles), meteorological factors (global radiation, maximum daytime temperature, daily averages of vapour pressure and air humidity) and respiratory symptoms. For 759 days the symptoms were recorded in a diary and modelling was based on a modification of the method proposed by Korn and Whittemore (Biometrics 35: 795-798, 1979). This approach (1) comprises an extension using environmental parameters at different time scales, (2) addresses the suitability of

[New cases of Diphyllobothrium pacificum (Nybelin, 1931) Margolis, 1956 human infection in North of Chile, probably related with El Niño phenomenon, 1975-2000].

The effect of El Niño/ENSO on terrestrial atmosphere appears to be extremely clear. However there are outstanding evidences showing its effect on humans and their activities. In fact, prevalence of some parasitic infections have increased during El Niño phenomenon. The reasons for that are the migrations of sylvatic mammals, fishes and birds as well as by environmental contamination. In this report, we show evidence respect of new cases of human infection by Diphyllobothrium pacificum clearly associated with a cyclic manifestation of El Niño in the Chilean Pacific coast during 1975-2000.

Thermal study of anti-G ensembles aboard F-16 aircraft in hot weather.

Continuing advances in the performance of new fighter aircraft have engendered requirements for more sophisticated protective clothing and life support systems. A major goal is prevention of acceleration-induced loss of consciousness. The USAF's Advanced Technology Enhanced Design G-Ensemble (COMBAT EDGE) increases acceleration tolerance by providing positive pressure to the oxygen mask; the work of pressure breathing is reduced by adding a counter-pressure bladder over the chest. However, the addition of impermeable layers over the chest reduces the area available for evaporation of sweat. Th
