The trabecular microstructure of normal lunates and lunates with Kienböck's disease was investigated using micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). Five lunates with advanced Kienböck's disease were obtained during lunate excision and scaphocapitate fusion, and five control lunates were from embalmed cadavers. Microstructural morphometric parameters were measured using micro-CT images. A macroscopic, microradiographic and scanning electron microscope study was performed on the structure of fluorosed dental enamel in red deer from a fluoride polluted region (North Bohemia, Czech Republic). As was revealed by analysis of mandibular bone fluoride content, the rate of skeletal fluoride accumulation in the fluorotic deer was about 6 times that in controls taken from a region not exposed to excessive fluoride deposition. Microautoradiography (MAR) is a conventional imaging method based on the daguerreotype. The technique is used to visualize the distribution of radionuclide-labeled compounds within a tissue section. 54 teeth from 20 patients irradiated for treatment of malignant tumors of the head and neck region were examined clinically, histologically and microradiographically. 18 teeth from 8 patients were used as controls. A significantly higher degree of hyposialia, radiation mucositis and atypical caries was found in the original group as compared to the control material. Occurrence of narrow gaps between dentin and cementum was also higher in the former group as compared with the latter.
