Spindle cell squamous cell carcinoma (SCSCC) is a rare subtype of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) that was first reported around 1900. Its potential for metastasis is uncertain. There has been noted a relationship to previous exposure to radiation therapy with subsequent aggressive presentation. We report an unusual case of a widely metastatic, poorly differentiated cutaneous spindle cell neoplasm with a rapidly progressive clinical course and dismal outcome in several days. This is one of a very few cases in the literature in which a skin cancer recurs with such diffuse metastasis and disastrou

Blastocyst embedding is very similar to neoplasm invasion. Blastocyst embedding is seeding the young plant of life, while neoplasm invasion is knocking at the door of death. Overexpression of melanoma cell adhesion molecule (CD146 or MCAM), a novel member of the immunoglobulingene superfamily, promotes invasion, metastasis, growth and survival of malignant cells, and implantation of blastocyst embedding in placenta. We hypothesize that CD146 may be a key gene both in neoplasm invasion and blastocyst embedding because of its ability in regulating cell invasion. The regulation of CD146 expressio

PURPOSE: Limited studies have used natural language processing (NLP) in the context of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This study aimed to validate the application of an NLP model to an NSCLC cohort by extracting NSCLC concepts from free-text medical notes and converting them to structured, interpretable data.
METHODS: Patients with a lung neoplasm, NSCLC histology, and treatment information in their notes were selected from a repository of over 27 million patients. From these, 200 were randomly selected for this study with the longest and the most recent note included for each patient. A

BackgroundLow-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma (LGFMS) is an uncommon malignant fibroblastic neoplasm characterized by deceptively bland histology and risk of late recurrence and metastasis. Primary pulmonary LGFMS is rare, with fewer than a dozen reported patients. Because the lung is also the most frequent metastatic site for soft-tissue LGFMS, distinguishing a primary pulmonary tumor from metastatic disease requires careful clinicopathologic correlation.Patient PresentationWe report a 70-year-old woman with a slowly enlarging right lower lobe pulmonary mass on imaging during a 2-year interval. In a 45-year-old man with a hypernephroma tumor of the right kidney, a metastasis in the pituitary gland of this neoplasm was diagnosed 9 years after removal of this kidney. He complained of bitemporal hemianopsia and slight impairment of vision. A hypernephroma metastasis in the pituitary gland is very rare and few have been reported to date. In general, these metastases occur in cases with multiple metastasis to many organs, which suggests that the appearance of pituitary metastasis represents extensive disease. Many of these patients present diabetes insipidus. Visual defects are frequently

The aim of the present study was to analyze and summarize the clinicopathological characteristics and factors affecting prognosis for patients with gastrointestinal neuroendocrine neoplasms (GINENs). Retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinicopathological data of 74 patients who were diagnosed with GINEN, and immunohistochemical methods were used to detect the expression levels of relevant markers [synaptophysin (Syn), chromogranin A (CgA) and Ki-67]. Among the 74 cases with GINEN, there were 39 males and 35 females, with an average age of 56.9 years. There were 32 neoplasms in the rec

PURPOSE: Metastatic cancer to the iris is rare, and the best approaches to clinical recognition and treatment of this neoplasm are not widely known. We reviewed a series of patients with metastatic cancer to the iris and elucidated the clinical variations, diagnostic approaches, and treatment of this neoplasm.
METHODS: The files of the Wills Eye Hospital Ocular Oncology Service were surveyed, and cases of metastatic cancer to the iris were extracted for further analysis. General data, systemic data, tumor characteristics, diagnostic methods used, treatment, and prognosis were tabulated.

Salivary gland neoplasms are a relatively uncommon disease, with nearly one case per 100.000 adults estimated per year and an overall incidence of 1% of all neoplasms. The benign neoplasms are majority and the prognosis depends on the histologic type, grade, localization, soft tissue infiltration, regional and distant metastasis. The main treatment is surgery with caution to facial nerve in the major salivary glands, followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy in selected cases. The objective of this review is to provide the lector an historic approach about salivary gland diseases treatment, wi

A rare case of syringomatous carcinoma of the breast in a 64-year-old female patient is reported. The tumor, occurring in the left breast, measured 1 cm. A quadrantectomy was performed and the patient presented no further recurrence or metastasis. Histologically, the neoplasm was composed of small tubules, often dilated, sometimes with a "tadpole" appearance, lined by epithelial flattened cells, and of keratinizing squamous cysts embedded in a desmoplastic stroma. Some tumors occurring in other anatomic sites show histologic features similar to those of syringomatous carcinoma of the breast: i

Extramammary Paget's disease (EMPD) is an intraepithelial neoplastic disorder which is included as a rare malignant condition. However, it sometimes shows aggressive behavior of local recurrence and coexisting malignancy. We had experienced nine cases of EMPD involving the scrotum for seven years. Two cases of them presented metastasis. The first case presented extensive inguinal lymph node metastasis with underlying adnexal adenocarcinoma one year after wide local excision. The second case initially presented multiple metastasis to the liver and in the lymph node. The latter, showing fulminan

Inflammatory pseudotumor (IPT)-like follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) is a rare neoplasm referred to as the FDCS variant. Here we report a 66-year-old female patient suffering from hepatic IPT-like FDCS and summarize IPT-like FDCS reported in the literature. The patient presented with obvious abdominal pain without significant laboratory abnormalities and subsequently underwent surgical resection of a hepatic lesion. Postoperative pathological results demonstrated a vascular tissue-rich neoplasm (7.0-cm maximum diameter). The tumor cells expressed CD21 and CD35, and in situ hybridizatio

Sex cord tumor with annular tubules (SCTATs) is a relatively rare ovarian neoplasm often having a syndromic association with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (PJS). Other associations described with this rare neoplasm include adenoma malignum of cervix, Turners syndrome, dysgerminoma, gonadoblastoma, endometrial carcinoma, and endometriosis of fallopian tube. We describe for the first time to the best of our literature search the incidental detection of SCTAT coexisting with an endometriotic cyst of ovary. Meticulous histological scanning and awareness is mandatory for detection of such unusual incident

Renal medullary carcinoma is a recently described aggressive neoplasm of the kidney. With the exception of 2 patients, all other reported cases have been associated with sickle cell hemoglobinopathies, mainly sickle cell trait and hemoglobin SC disease. Renal medullary carcinoma is a highly malignant tumor with evidence of angiolymphatic and distant metastasis at the time of diagnosis. No specific genetic abnormality has been identified in this neoplasm despite its close association with a genetic disease. We describe 2 cases of renal medullary carcinoma, one associated with hemoglobin SC dise

Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm is characterized by cystically dilated main and/or branch pancreatic duct with mucus. According to the degree of atypia, intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm is classified into 3 groups: adenoma, borderline, and carcinoma. Furthermore, intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm is considered to progress through an adenoma-carcinoma sequence like colorectal carcinoma. Programmed cell death 4 is a recently identified tumor suppressor that was found to inhibit translation. Programmed cell death 4 has been reported to inhibit tumorigenesis, tumor progression

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare neoplasm and the most frequent pathology occurring in the minor salivary glands. Lung, bone, liver, and brain are the most frequent metastasis sites in ACC cases. To our knowledge, cecal and ileum metastasis from ACC has not been previously reported in literature. Herein, we reported a case of cecal and small bowel metastasis (ileum) in a patient with ACC. A 41-year-old male patient with ACC developed iron and Vitamin B12 deficiency anemia during further controls. Lower gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy detected an ulcerated polypoid lesion with raised ma

UNLABELLED: Prostate adenocarcinomas present a high risk of metastasis. We report a case of an atypical prostate cancer metastasis. A male patient presented a prostatic adenocarcinoma treated by surgery. A biological recurrence was discovered during the follow-up by an increased rate of Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) and was treated by hormonotherapy. Several months later, there was a re-increase of the PSA rate. The CT scan showed a radiation proctitis aspect. An intermittent hormonotherapy was decided. Six months later, he presented abdominal pain. Examinations were performed and showed a r

Palmar fasciitis and a polyarthritis syndrome (PFPAS) is an uncommon paraneoplastic syndrome often associated with occult neoplasms, including ovarian and pancreatic carcinomas. A 67-year-old patient with presenting symptoms of PFPAS is reported. Twelve months after onset of the symptoms an ovarian and pancreatic adenocarcinoma was diagnosed synchronously. The spread pattern and other features of the neoplasm indicate that it was a primary pancreatic cancer with ovarian metastasis. Surgical excision of tumor and adjuvant chemotherapy caused remission of symptoms. A literature review of PFPAS a
