PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review focuses on intravesical recurrence (IVR) of upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC).
RECENT FINDINGS: We explore epidemiology, risk factors, mechanisms of tumor cell seeding, molecular pathways, genetic predispositions, and related factors of UTUC. Diagnostic techniques, strategies managing disease and reducing recurrence, as well as controversies and challenges in UTUC management are discussed. By synthesizing the latest research findings, this review aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of UTUC IVR which can guide clinical practice and future research

It is known that benign encapsulated thymoma can pursue an aggressive clinical course on rare occasions. It may recur locally, it may be invasive, or it may metastasize. We present a case of local seeding into the chest wall, presenting 12 years after core needle biopsy and complete excision of the mediastinal tumor. We draw attention to the malignant clinical behavior of some benign stage I thymomas.

Percutaneous transhepatic biliary decompression is a preoperative surgical adjunct in patients with obstructive jaundice that has been in use since 1973. A 35-year-old woman with a histologically proven T2 N0 M0 adenocarcinoma of the breast was given 4 cycles of neodjuvant chemotherapy then underwent tumourectomy followed by irradiation. Lymph nodes were free from invasion. A 7 cm ovarian cyst developed during follow-up and after a 2 month regimen of lynestrenol, coelioscopy with peritoneal lavage was performed. The pathology diagnosis was papillary cystadenocarcinoma requiring laparotomy which revealed invasion of both ovaries, neoplasic granulations and involvements of the epiloon. Exceresis of the trocar tract also showed tumoural invasion.

Cytologic examination of bile obtained during surgery from intrahepatic bile ducts in patients with malignant proximal bile duct obstruction has shown a high incidence of tumor cells. Spill of bile occurs frequently during these operations and postoperative bile leakage often occurs. BACKGROUND: Low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm (LAMN) is an uncommon tumor of the appendix that is usually diagnosed incidentally after surgery. Although LAMN may be asymptomatic, it can rupture and seed mucin and neoplastic epithelium into the peritoneum, causing pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Data from 53 patients were retrospectively analyzed. Age, sex, tumor size, margin status, peritoneal carcinomatosis index, surgical procedures, postoperative results with histologic diagnosis, T stage, recurrence, and mortality of the patients were evaluated.

Since laparoscopic surgery has been applied to cancer, an increased number of secondary tumors implanted in the abdominal wall have been reported. A retrospective study of cases seen between 1975 and 1985 showed 24 tumors of upper urinary tract secondary to primary bladder localizations. These secondary localizations developed during evolution of multi-resected recurring bladder tumors, within a mean period of 15 months after discovery of a secondary vesicorenal reflux.
