BACKGROUND: The classification of many pigmented lesions is not well defined, and an association with melanoma has not been established.
OBJECTIVE: To better define the spectrum of pigmented lesions (excluding common and dysplastic nevi) and explore links to melanoma.
METHODS: Retrospective review of patients with total-body digital photographs at high risk of developing melanoma from the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center Dermatology Service.
RESULTS: Among 598 patients, 7.7% had café au lait spots, 2.8% had nevi spilus, 2.3% had congenital nevus-like nevi, 2% had "other" lesions, 1.2%

We herein report an 11-year-old girl who came to our clinic with a swelling on the genital area of 2 months duration. Dermatological examination of the patient was performed and a pigmented lesion was found on the inner surface of the labium majus of the mucosa. The lesion was well circumscribed and approximately 1 cm in diameter, with homogenous color distribution. The patient was diagnosed as Spitz nevus on the basis of clinical and histopathological findings. Our case is probably the first reported case of Spitz nevus localized to the genital mucosa in the English literature.

A 52-year-old man sought treatment for decreased vision in his right eye for 3 weeks. Visual acuity was 20/120. Examination revealed an elevated choroidal nevus at the posterior pole. Fluorescein and indocyanine green angiographies disclosed fibrovascular pigment epithelial detachment extending under the fovea. The patient was treated by two sessions of photodynamic therapy with verteporfin. Visual acuity improved to 20/40. BACKGROUND: Blue nevi are rare in the cervix and vagina. Melanocytes are not normally found in these sites and have been hypothesized to arise either from the Schwann cells of stromal nerves or from melanocytic precursors which have aberrantly migrated from the neural crest to rest in the Müllerian stroma. Because of their rarity (3 previous cases in the literature), vaginal blue nevi have not previously been studied with immunohistochemical and ultrastructural analysis.
DESIGN: We describe 3 cases of blue nevus occurring in the Müllerian tract, 1 in the vagina and 2 in the endocervix.
