Satisfactory intrascrotal position of the testicles was achieved by dividing the spermatic vessels, leaving the vas deferens intact, in 3 patients with undescended testes. A postoperative scrotal scan provided objective means of evaluating the adequacy of testicular circulation. To determine the efficacy of various procedures for orchiopexy for undescended testes we suggest that postoperative evaluation include radionuclide imaging of the scrotum.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Perineal ectopic testis (PET) is a very rare condition in the spectrum of abnormally located testis and should be looked for in all children with an empty scrotum who do not have undescended testis (UDT). PURPOSE: We studied whether testicular proximity to the ipsilateral internal ring or ability to reach the contralateral ring predicted the likelihood that laparoscopic orchiopexy would deliver an intra-abdominal testis to the dependent scrotum.
