The decomposition of alpha-aminophosphine oxides to phosphonic acid derivatives (PIII).

Aminophosphine oxides and aminophosphonates are, in general, very stable compounds. However, following phosphorus-carbon bond cleavage in aqueous acidic media these compounds sometimes decompose to phosphonic acids derivatives (P(III)). Despite some controversy in the literature, careful analysis supported by theoretical studies leads to the conclusion that decomposition to P(III) derivatives proceeds via an elimination reaction.

Transformation of the Phosphorus Atom in Hexacyclic Polyaromates and Its Impact on Physicochemical Properties.

A series of eight phenanthrene-based phosphorus heterocycles were prepared to evaluate the effect of phosphorus-center modification on the optical and electrochemical properties of π-conjugated systems. A versatile synthetic route provided access to λ3-, λ4-, and λ5-phosphorus derivatives, including phosphinine, phosphine oxide, sulfide, selenide, phosphinic acid, amide, and phosphonium species. The resulting compounds were investigated using DFT calculations in combination with absorption and emission spectroscopy as well as cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). Thermal Degradation of Organophosphorus Flame Retardants.

The development of new organophosphorus flame retardants for polymeric materials is spurred by relatively low toxicity, effectiveness, and demand for replacement of more traditional materials. To function, these compounds must decompose in a degrading polymer matrix to form species which promote modification of the solid phase or generate active radical moieties that escape to the gas phase and interrupt combustion propagating reactions. An understanding of the decomposition process for these compounds may provide insight into the nature of flame retardant action which they may offer and sugge

Phosphorus recovery from sewage sludge with a hybrid process of low pressure wet oxidation and nanofiltration.

Phosphorus recovery from sewage sludge will become increasingly important within the next decades due to depletion of mineral phosphorus resources. In this work a new process concept was investigated, which aims at realising phosphorus recovery in a synergistic way with the overall sewage sludge treatment scheme. This process combines a low pressure wet oxidation for sewage sludge decomposition as well as phosphorus dissolution and a nanofiltration process to separate phosphorus from heavy metals and obtain a clean diluted phosphoric acid, from which phosphorus can be recovered as clean fertil

The assessment of phosphorus recovery potential in sewage sludge incineration ashes - a case study.

A sewage sludge incineration ash contains large amounts of phosphorus, which are considered as a novel anthropogenic waste-based substitute for phosphorus natural resources. Phosphorus is accumulated at most in phosphate minerals of whitlockite structure, that contain Fe, Ca, and Mg and in the matrix composed of Si, Al, Fe, Ca, P, Mg, K, Na in various proportions. The goal of this study was to estimate phosphorus recovery potential. A four-stage sequential extraction, following the modified Golterman procedure, was applied. Separation of four independent fractions enabled to understand better

Effects of different intercropping patterns on tea rhizosphere environment and leaf quality.

Intercropping can improve tea soils and leaf quality, but partner-specific responses remain unclear. We compared four systems-Paris polyphylla-tea (CT), leguminous green manure-tea (LF), Pleurotus ostreatus-tea (CJ), and Polygonatum kingianum-tea (HJ)-with matched monoculture controls. Tea and soil traits were integrated with high-throughput sequencing, LEfSe, PICRUSt2 functional prediction, and correlation analyses. LF significantly increased soil available and total phosphorus, enriched the potentially beneficial fungi Mortierella and Trichoderma in the tea rhizosphere, and enhanced the pred

[Severe hypophosphatemia in intensive care].

Phosphorus plays an essential role in cellular metabolism, especially in the oxidative phosphorylation process and in the synthesis of 2-3 DPG and membrane phospholipids. Moreover phosphorus is necessary as a buffer, mainly when the organism's principal buffer, the H2CO3/HCO3- system, is working at maximal rate. The authors describe a case of severe hypophosphatemia in a ICU patient with a mixed disorder of the acid-base balance. C.P., a woman, aged 71, obese (IBW 145%), at admission in ICU showed increasing dyspnea, hypoxemia and acidosis. Besides alkaline drugs a Venturi mask with FiO2 = 0.3

Positive effect of inoculation with an Aspergillus strain on phosphorus and iron nutrition plus volatile organic compounds in rice.

We explored the potential of a fungal strain Aspergillus costaricensis KS1 for modulating growth and nutrient mobilization in rice. At laboratory conditions, there was a decline in pH of the medium on inoculation with the strain and the production of citric acid was observed under broth conditions. Similarly, there was higher solubilization of tricalcium phosphate and siderophore production in liquid medium on inoculation with the strain. The effect of inoculation of KS1 was studied in rice and higher growth and yield were observed on inoculation compared to control. The content of phosphorus

Cultivation of Anabaena sp. at Different Phosphorus Excess Concentrations: Growth Parameters, Value-Added Metabolites, and Microcystin-LR Production.

Phosphorus is a key driver of cyanobacterial proliferation and the production of secondary metabolites in freshwater ecosystems. In this study, the effects of different phosphorus concentrations, including 7.10 (control treatment), 7.74, 8.38, and 9.66 mg L-1 (CP230, TP250, TP271, and TP312, respectively), on growth, valuable biochemicals, as well as the toxicity potential of Anabaena sp. in BG-11 medium were investigated. Elevated phosphorus levels significantly enhanced chlorophyll a and total carotenoid contents, with the highest values recorded under 8.38 mg P L-1 (1.16 ± 0.04 mg L-1 and 1

Metal-free highly chemo-selective bisphosphorylation and deoxyphosphorylation of carboxylic acids.

Carboxylic acids are readily available in both the natural and synthetic world. Their direct utilization for preparing organophosphorus compounds would greatly benefit the development of organophosphorus chemistry. In this manuscript, we describe a novel and practical phosphorylating reaction under transition metal-free reaction conditions that can selectively convert carboxylic acids into the P-C-O-P motif-containing compounds through bisphosphorylation, and the benzyl phosphorus compounds through deoxyphosphorylation. This strategy provides a new route for carboxylic acid conversion as the a

Nutritional Balancing Strategies in Low-Fishmeal Aquafeeds: A PRISMA 2020-Based Systematic Review Beyond Lysine and Methionine Supplementation.

Fishmeal reduction is central to sustainable aquafeed development, but low-fishmeal diets may not reproduce all the nutritional and functional properties of fishmeal after lysine and methionine correction. This PRISMA 2020-based systematic review synthesized peer-reviewed feeding trials evaluating nutritional-balancing strategies beyond these two amino acids in low-fishmeal, fishmeal-free, or high-alternative-protein diets. Alternative protein ingredients were treated as dietary matrices rather than interventions, and studies evaluating ingredient replacement alone were excluded. Twenty-three

Oxidative conversion of HEDP to phosphate in charged water microdroplets.

Organophosphonates are persistent anthropogenic phosphorus compounds because of their stable carbon-phosphorus bonds. Whether such compounds can be oxidatively converted to inorganic phosphate at dynamic air-water interfaces remains poorly understood. Here, using 1-hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid (HEDP) as a model organophosphonate, we show its stepwise oxidation in charged water microdroplets under mild conditions. Online mass spectrometry revealed a marked decrease in the deprotonated HEDP signal and the appearance of H2PO4- at m/z 96.9685, while ion chromatography and CO2 analysis i

[Lavoisier and radicals].

Lavoisier and his co-workers (Guyton de Morveau, Bertholet, Fourcroy) considered that acids were constituted of oxygen and of something else that they called radicals. These radicals were known in some cases, i.e. nitrogen for nitrous acid, carbon for carbonic acid, phosphorus for phosphoric acid. In the case of sulfur, the sulfuric radical could be associated with different quantities of oxigen leading to sulfuric or sulfurous acids. In other cases radicals remained unknown at the time i.e. muriatic radical for muriatic acid, or benzoyl radical for benzoic acid. It is interesting to notice th

Stable P-heterocyclic carbenes: scope and limitations.

The conjugate acids (PHCH+s) of P-heterocyclic carbenes (PHCs) are prepared by formal [3+2] cycloaddition of a 1,3-diphosphaallyl or 1,3-phosphinophosphenium cation with various nitriles. The effect of the phosphorus substituent on the fate of the cyclization and on that of the counteranion and base in the subsequent deprotonation reaction are reported. Two PHCs that are indefinitely stable in the solid state are described. In solution, one of them, made from acetonitrile, undergoes a facile [3+2] cycloreversion, whereas the other, based on dimethyl cyanamide, is stable, presumably owing to it

Contrasting the influences of phosphate and phosphite on growth of Aspergillus niger.

Phosphite serves as an alternative phosphorus material in terrestrial ecosystems. Aspergillus niger (A. niger), a prominent phosphate-solubilizing fungus (PSF), facilitates phosphorus and leaches heavy metal ions via organic acids and enzymes. With the synergistic effect of phosphate materials, heavy metal ions can be effectively immobilized by A. niger to achieve remediation of contaminated soils. This study investigated the structural distinctions between phosphite and phosphate compounds by using ATR-IR and Raman spectroscopy, while concurrently assessing the physiological impact of phosphi

Selective radial thickness growth of compositionally graded shells on colloidal quantum rods for more efficient light-emitting diodes.

Colloidal quantum nanorods (NRs) exhibit linearly polarized emission and fast radiative recombination owing to their two-dimensional confinement, enabling high-performance light-emitting diodes (LEDs). However, due to facet-dependent growth kinetics, anisotropic shell growth often leads to preferential overgrowth along the long axis and insufficient radial (short axis) coverage. This structural imbalance weakens exciton confinement within the core and compromises the suppression of Förster resonance energy transfer. Here, we report a dual-ligand (organic phosphorus/carboxylic acids) slow-injec

Contributions of SGK3 to transporter-related diseases.

Serum- and glucocorticoid-induced kinase 3 (SGK3), which is ubiquitously expressed in mammals, is regulated by estrogens and androgens. SGK3 is activated by insulin and growth factors through signaling pathways involving phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K), 3-phosphoinositide-dependent kinase-1 (PDK-1), and mammalian target of rapamycin complex 2 (mTORC2). Activated SGK3 can activate ion channels (TRPV5/6, SOC, Kv1.3, Kv1.5, Kv7.1, BKCa, Kir2.1, Kir2.2, ENaC, Nav1.5, ClC-2, and ClC Ka), carriers and receptors (Npt2a, Npt2b, NHE3, GluR1, GluR6, SN1, EAAT1, EAAT2, EAAT4, EAAT5, SGLT1, SLC1A5, S
