There are five published case reports of bone marrow transplantation (BMT) patients with hepatic veno-occlusive disease (VOD) who were treated with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) and low-dose heparin. Two of the five patients had an initial response to rt-PA. One had complete resolution of clinical signs and symptoms. Bleeding occurred in three of the five. In patients with disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), hyperfibrinolysis was observed in patients with leukaemia, but hypofibrinolysis was seen in those with sepsis. The use of purified piscine plasminogen in a chromogenic solution assay enabled us to detect plasminogen activator (PA) activity in crude homogenates of goldfish optic nerve following nerve injury. Hypersensitivity granulomas induced by infection with Schistosoma mansoni were isolated from the livers of BALB/c mice after 7, 8, 10, and 1 … = 95K, 74K, and 60K remained unchanged suggesting the presence of both vascular and tissue types of plasminogen activators.
