Catchment area and cancer population health research through a novel population-based statewide database: a scoping review.

BackgroundPopulation-based linked datasets are vital to generate catchment area and population health research. The novel Cancer Information and Population Health Resource (CIPHR) links statewide cancer registry data, public and private insurance claims, and provider- and area-level data, representing more than 80% of North Carolina's large, diverse population of individuals diagnosed with cancer. This scoping review of articles that used CIPHR data characterizes the breadth of research generated and identifies further opportunities for population-based health research.MethodsArticles publishe

Health policy and health system experiences of forcibly displaced populations: a scoping review of qualitative evidence.

OBJECTIVES: Forcibly displaced populations face persistent barriers to accessing equitable healthcare, yet qualitative evidence on how policy and health system factors shape these experiences remains fragmented, particularly across underrepresented domains. DESIGN: This scoping review synthesised qualitative and mixed-methods evidence on healthcare experiences among refugees, asylum seekers and internally displaced persons. DATA SOURCES: PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus were searched for studies published between January 2010 and April 2025, alongside grey literature from Google Scholar and

Examining burnout profiles in relation to health and well-being in the Veterans Health Administration employee population.

The goals of this paper were twofold: (a) To provide a population overview of burnout profiles by occupation in a large, health care sector employee population and (b) to investigate how burnout profiles relate to self-reported health behaviours, chronic conditions, and absenteeism. Burnout profiles were considered by 5 main occupational groups (physicians, nurses, other clinical, administrative, and wage grade [trade, craft, and labor workers]) in survey respondents (n = 86,257 employees). Logistic regression analyses were conducted to examine how burnout profiles were associated with health

Experiences of discrimination: validity and reliability of a self-report measure for population health research on racism and health.

Population health research on racial discrimination is hampered by a paucity of psychometrically validated instruments that can be feasibly used in large-scale studies. We therefore sought to investigate the validity and reliability of a short self-report instrument, the "Experiences of Discrimination" (EOD) measure, based on a prior instrument used in the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults (CARDIA) study. Study participants were drawn from a cohort of working class adults, age 25-64, based in the Greater Boston area, Massachusetts (USA). The main study analytic sample included 1

A comparative analysis of health status of international migrants and local population in Chile: a population-based, cross-sectional analysis from a social determinants of health perspective.

BACKGROUND: During recent decades intraregional migration has increased in Latin America. Chile became one of the main receiving countries and hosted diverse international migrant groups. Evidence have suggested a healthy migrant effect (HME) on health status, but it remains scarce, controversial and needs to be updated. This study performed a comprehensive analysis verifying the existence of HME and its association with social determinants of health (SDH). METHODS: We analyzed data from the Chilean National Socioeconomic Characterization Survey (CASEN, version 2017). Unadjusted prevalence of

[MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT BEYOND BOUNDARIES - MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES FOR THE EVACUATED POPULATION DURING THE "IRON SWORD" WAR].

The terrorist attack by Hamas and other organizations on October 7th, 2023 surprised the State of Israel. The Western Negev region, where most of the damage occurred, is a conflict zone. In view of this fact, emergency plans were prepared, including for the response in the field of mental health. These plans included the provision of emotional support and mental health services by the regional resilience centers. Several factors led to the fact that the resilience centers were not able to provide full service to the evacuated population. In general, mental health services in the State of Israe

Exploring the potential impact of medical errors research on population health.

BACKGROUND: While most research on medical errors has focused on reducing these events within clinical settings, little is known about whether this scientific research translates into improvements in population-level health or system indicators. This study aimed to explore the potential impact of medical errors research on population health, health system, and research and development indicators. METHODS: A longitudinal analysis was conducted using global data from 1995 to 2024. Annual publication counts on medical errors were matched with 18 global population and structural indicators across

Community water fluoridation policy and population oral health: a policy analysis.

Dental caries (tooth decay) remains the most common noncommunicable disease worldwide and continues to impose significant dental and systemic health and economic burdens despite being largely preventable. Untreated disease contributes to pain, infection, reduced quality of life, and increased demand for restorative dental care. Governments, therefore, face policy decisions regarding population-level prevention strategies. This analysis evaluates policy options related to population-level fluoride exposure, including maintaining existing community water fluoridation (CWF) programs, expanding fl
