Six cases of pulmonary sporotichosis were observed in 2 institutions in Oklahoma City, Okla. Three of the patients were treated with iodides with or without surgery. Although one patient required a second course of iodides, the patients have remained well after at least 34 months of follow-up. Three patients treated with amphotericin B, single course as well as multiple courses, and other antifungal agents (hydroxystilbamidine and miconazole) have all relapsed. Postpartum thyroiditis (PPT) is common and occurs in 1.7 to 16.7% of pregnant women, depending upon the study population. Most of these women develop transient hypothyroidism and thyroid function usually returns to normal. We report an unusual case of Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome presenting as diffuse facial swelling with facial, glossopharyngeal and vagus nerve palsies. A skin biopsy revealed non-caseating epithelioid cell granulomas throughout the dermis. The disease responded poorly to systemic steroids, antihistamines, antibiotics and potassium iodide.

Graves disease is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism in children. Although neutropenia and thrombocytopenia have been reported in adults with untreated Graves disease, these complications are rare in children. Conidiobolomycosis is a neglected tropical fungal infection involving the head and neck region. Here we report the first case of atypical conidiobolomycosis presenting with dysphagia and significant weight loss from Odisha, India. We describe a case of subcutaneous zygomycosis caused by Conidiobolus coronatus of six years' duration. Following treatment failure using potassium iodide, the patient responded with ketoconazole therapy. She remained well three years following therapy. A case of localized cutaneous sporotrichosis is reported. The lesion was granulomatous, without lymphatic metastasis. Histological examination revealed numerous spores and asteroid bodies. Sporotrichin reaction was negative, but after treatment with potassium iodide became positive. The peculiar features of this case seem to be due to some disturbances of cellular immunity.

Subcutaneous zygomycosis is an unusual disorder caused by a rare fungus, Basidiobolus ranarum. We report this entity in a 4- yr- old boy. Biopsy showed the Splendore Hoeppli phenomenon and the culture yielded Basidiobolus ranarum. The child responded to saturated solution of potassium iodide within 1 month of starting treatment.
