Effectiveness of a Technology-Based Psychosocial Empowerment Program for Children With Cancer and Their Parents in Home-Based Care: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Children with cancer and their parents require continuous psychosocial support beyond hospital-based care, particularly in settings where structured, family-centered psychosocial services are limited. Although evidence-based psychosocial interventions exist, these are predominantly developed and implemented in well-resourced healthcare systems and may not be readily accessible or scalable in different care contexts. However, evidence on structured, technology-based psychosocial empowerment programs targeting both children and parents within home-based care remains limited. This stu

Barriers and Facilitators to Accessing Psychosocial Support Following Miscarriage: A Scoping Review Protocol.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Miscarriage is the most common complication in early pregnancy and is associated with adverse mental health outcomes. Expectant parents want emotional support during this devastating life event, yet few receive the support they desire. Access to support may be affected by individual, societal, and systemic factors. This study aims to map international English literature about the barriers and facilitators to accessing psychosocial support. As miscarriage can have enduring psychological impacts, it is pertinent to uncover factors impacting access to psychosocial support, as

The Implications of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery on Psychosocial and Relational Health: A Narrative Review.

Obesity is a globally prevalent condition associated with elevated morbidity and mortality. Metabolic and bariatric surgery offers a definitive treatment for class III (BMI > 40) obesity, achieving substantial, enduring weight loss and improving metabolic health. Despite extensive research on the physical benefits, comparatively fewer reviews investigate the psychosocial and relational changes accompanying these procedures. This narrative review examines how such procedures affect partner relationship quality, sexual function, and broader social integration, aiming to synthesise current findin

A Qualitative Investigation of Health Care Professionals', Patients' and Partners' Views on Psychosocial Issues and Related Interventions for Couples Coping with Cancer.

IntroductionThere is growing evidence that cancer affects couples as an interdependent system and that couple-based psychosocial interventions are efficacious in reducing distress and improving coping skills. However, adoption of a couples-focused approach into cancer care is limited. Previous research has shown that patients and partners hold differing views from health care professionals (HCPs) regarding their psychosocial needs, and HCPs from different disciplines also hold divergent views regarding couples' psychosocial needs. This study aimed to explore the perspectives of HCPs and couple

"What Do You Need?" Formative Research to Develop a Comprehensive Maternal Needs Assessment Tool for Infant and Young Child Nourishment and Care in the United States.

Background/Objectives: Despite substantial healthcare spending, U.S. mothers encounter fragmented support systems for infant feeding, care, and maternal mental health. While existing needs assessment instruments target parents of ill or preterm infants, no validated tool captures the full range of informational, psychosocial, and structural needs among mothers of healthy, full-term infants. This formative mixed-methods study sought to identify and prioritize maternal needs across multiple socioecological levels to guide the development of a comprehensive Maternal Needs Assessment Tool (MNAT).

Psychosocial Factors Associated with Psychiatric Readmission Following Inpatient Discharge: A Systematic Review.

Psychiatric readmission following inpatient discharge is common and is frequently used as an indicator of continuity and quality of care in mental health services. Although readmission is often interpreted as a marker of clinical relapse, increasing evidence suggests that psychosocial factors may contribute to post-discharge outcomes. However, evidence on these factors remains fragmented across settings, populations, and healthcare systems. This systematic review synthesised quantitative observational evidence on psychosocial factors associated with psychiatric readmission following discharge f

Living Well: Protocol for a web-based program to improve quality of life in rural and urban ovarian cancer survivors.

BACKGROUND: Ovarian cancer (OC) survivors commonly experience chronic symptoms including anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, fatigue, physical symptoms, poor health-related quality of life (HRQOL), and a generally poor prognosis. Additionally, factors such as social isolation, stress, and depression are associated with key biological processes promoting tumor progression and poorer survival. Accessible psychosocial interventions to improve HRQOL and clinical outcomes are needed. This need is particularly true in rural settings where survivors may have less access to clinic-based support s

Evidence-based approaches to other symptoms in advanced cancer.

Dyspnea, nausea and vomiting, anorexia, fatigue, and sleep disturbances are common and distressing in advanced cancer. We updated previous systematic reviews of how these symptoms can be alleviated with targeted literature searches. The approach to these symptoms requires comprehensive symptom assessment; treating underlying causes when benefits exceed risks; prioritizing treatment, as patients usually have many symptoms; and addressing psychosocial and spiritual distress. For dyspnea, evidence supports systemic opioids and nonpharmacological treatments such as a fan. The strongest evidence su

Emotion regulation and the salience network: a hypothetical integrative model of fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia is characterized by widespread pain, fatigue, sleep disturbances and other symptoms, and has a substantial socioeconomic impact. Current biomedical and psychosocial treatments are unsatisfactory for many patients, and treatment progress has been hindered by the lack of a clear understanding of the pathogenesis of fibromyalgia. We present here a model of fibromyalgia that integrates current psychosocial and neurophysiological observations. We propose that an imbalance in emotion regulation, reflected by an overactive 'threat' system and underactive 'soothing' system, might keep the

The moderating effect of resilience on the relationship between exposure to domestic violence and academic dishonesty in Peruvian adolescents.

BACKGROUND: Exposure to domestic violence during adolescence has been associated with adverse school-related outcomes, including academic dishonesty. Resilience may function as a psychosocial resource that mitigates these effects. This study examined the moderating role of resilience in the association between exposure to domestic violence and academic dishonesty among Peruvian school-aged adolescents. METHODS: A total of 1721 secondary school students from urban regions of Peru participated in the study using convenience sampling. Validated instruments were administered to assess exposure to

Promoting a combination approach to paediatric HIV psychosocial support.

Ninety percent of the 3.4 million HIV-infected children live in sub-Saharan Africa. Their psychosocial well being is fundamental to establishing and maintaining successful treatment outcomes and overall quality of life. With the increased roll-out of antiretroviral treatment, HIV infection is shifting from a life-threatening to a chronic disease. However, even for paediatric patients enrolled in care and treatment, HIV can still be devastating due to the interaction of complex factors, particularly in the context of other household illness and overextended healthcare systems in sub-Saharan Afr

A qualitative investigation of the psychosocial services utilised by care-givers of patients with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias in southwestern Uganda.

Individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias often require substantial support from other people. Much of the care-giving is from family members who eventually experience physical, emotional and financial stress, depression and fatigue. In Uganda, families are a cornerstone in providing care to individuals with dementia. However, little is known about the psychosocial supports available to the care-givers in their care-giving role. We assessed the psychosocial supports available to care-givers of individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias in southwestern Uganda. W
