A Japanese male in his 50s was presented to our hospital with the chief complaint of positive fecal immunochemical test. He had a history of hypertension. He underwent colonoscopy and was diagnosed with sigmoid colon cancer. He also underwent laparoscopic sigmoid colectomy with D3 lymph node dissection for sigmoid colon cancer. The inferior mesenteric artery and inferior mesenteric vein were amputated at the root of the vessels. The patient received adjuvant chemotherapy and was recurrence-free. Eleven months after the surgery, lower abdominal pain during defecation appeared. Contrast-enhanced

A case report and review of the literature concerning endobronchial metastasis from colorectal carcinoma is discussed. Careful attention to the past history of the patient, presenting symptoms and laboratory evaluation, may lessen the diagnostic difficulty in differentiating a centrally located bronchogenic carcinoma from a metastasis to a major bronchus. In the majority of cases, the primary colorectal tumor will precede the pulmonary abnormality. The most frequently manifested symptoms are cough and hemoptysis. Radiologic findings usually consist of a collapsed lung, lobe or segment secondar

A 37-year-old male with long-standing and extensive ulcerative pancolitis developed a rapidly lethal poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) in the sigmoid colon. Prior biopsies obtained from multiple sites of the colon during endoscopic surveillance showed minimal inflammatory changes and no sign of dysplasia. Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are at increased risk of colorectal malignancies, and adenocarcinoma is the most common type of colorectal neoplasm associated with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, but other types of epithelial and nonepithelial tumors

PURPOSE: Leiomyosarcoma is a rare neoplasm. There is paucity of literature in regards to paraovarian leiomyosarcoma with metastases to the scalp. We present a 72-year-old woman with metastases to the scalp from a primary paraovarian high grade leiomyosarcoma.
METHODS AND RESULTS: The patient underwent a total abdominal hysterectomy, pelvic and aortic lymphadenectomy, excision of Meckel's diverticulum, and radical pelvic tumor debulking with sigmoid colectomy and end-to-end anastomosis and six cycles of taxotere/carboplatin. She presented 18 months later with metastatic high-grade leiomyosarco

Paragangliomas can be diagnosed accurately using magnetic resonance imaging and dynamic four-dimensional magnetic resonance angiography. Four-dimensional imaging uses the highly vascularised structure of these tumours, which results in a homogenous capillary blush and usually, due to the arteriovenous shunting, in an early draining vein. By these features the tumour can be differentiated from other neoplasms. The authors describe a case of a paraganglioma localised in the middle ear of an elderly patient. Magnetic resonance contraindications led to preoperative diagnostics with high resolution

A 78-year-old man was referred to our hospital with diarrhea, melena, and weight loss. During a digital rectal examination, a protuberant mass located 7-8 cm above the anal verge was palpable. Computed tomography(CT)scans of his chest, abdomen, and pelvis revealed an intestinal obstruction with a target sign in the lower rectum, indicating intussusception due to a sigmoid colon mass. A gastrografin enema examination revealed a typical filling defect with a crab claw sign in the rectum. However, the enema did not reduce the intussusception. The surgical findings showed that the sigmoid colon ha

Complete visceral inversion occurs in 1/5,000 individuals. In 64%of cases, complete visceral inversion is complicated by the malformation of other organs. Careful attention is required when performing surgeries. In recent years, with the development of laparoscopic surgery, some cases of laparoscopic surgery with complete visceral inversion have been reported. Herein, we report a case of safely performed laparoscopic surgery for sigmoid colon cancer with complete visceral inversion along with a relevant discussion.

A 67-year-old man with angiomyolipoma on the sigmoid colon is reported. The colonic polyp was pedunculated and diagnosed histologically after endoscopic polypectomy. Angiomyolipoma is one of the benign hamartomas arising principally in the kidneys of patients with or without tuberous sclerosis. Extrarenal angiomyolipoma is rare and this may be the first report of colonic angiomyolipoma.

A case of inflammatory fibroid polyp of the sigmoid colon is presented. This is the eight case of this type of polyp in the colon and, to the best of our knowledge, the first one involving the sigmoid and producing intussusception. Symptomatology of the inflamed fibroid polyp in this part of the gut closely simulates gastrointestinal malignancy. The treatment is surgical excision of the polyp, or colonoscopic resection when it is possible. Intraoperative colonoscopy helps the surgeon to localize the lesion and to role out the existence of other lesions.

A rare case of mucus-secreting adenocarcinoma in a tubular duplication of the sigmoid colon is presented. The pertinent radiographic manifestations were: a calcium containing soft tissue mass located at the blind end of a 20 cm barium filled tubular duplication originating at the sigmoid colon.

Castleman's disease is a benign lymphoid neoplasm first reported as hyperplasia of mediastinal lymph nodes. Some authors referred to the lesions as isolated tumors, described as a variant of Hodgkin's disease with a possibility of a malignant potential and others proposed that the lymphoid masses were of a hamartomatous nature. Three histologic variants and two clinical types of the disease have been described. The disease may occur in almost any area in which lymph nodes are normally found. The most common locations are thorax (63%), abdomen (11%) and axilla (4%). We report two separate histo

BACKGROUND: To our knowledge, giant lymph node hyperplasia (Castleman disease) may present as a pelvic mass on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
CASE: A postmenopausal woman with rapidly enlarging leiomyoma uteri was found to have a suspicious left adnexal mass mimicking an ovarian neoplasm on preoperative MRI. At laparotomy, the suspected uterus and normal ovaries were extirpated. In addition, a firm, 4 x 8-cm solid mass within the sigmoid colon mesentery was found and resected. The final histologic diagnosis was Castleman disease.
CONCLUSION: Entities such as Castleman disease should be co

Primary small intestinal cancer is a rare malignancy, accounting for 0.1%-0.3% of all gastrointestinal cancers. Its nonspecific presentation often delays diagnosis and worsens prognosis. This case report presents a patient with small intestinal cancer exhibiting mesenteric invasion and atypical features. We emphasize that mesenteric invasion is a rare finding, and the achieved 5-year recurrence-free survival in a Stage ⅡB small intestinal adenocarcinoma represents an exceptionally favorable outcome. The patient was a 78-year-old female who was referred to our hospital with a chief complaint of
