Standardized uptake values and attenuation correction in 18 F-sodium fluoride PET of the equine foot and fetlock.

Maximal standardized uptake values (SUVmax ) are commonly used for the interpretation of PET studies. Limited information regarding the SUVmax of 18 F-NaF PET in horses is currently available in the literature. The goals of this retrospective secondary analysis study were to provide reference values for 18 F-NaF SUVmax in the equine distal extremity and assess the effect of attenuation correction. Nonattenuation corrected (NAC) and CT-based attenuation corrected (CTAC) SUVmax were obtained from 19 feet and 19 fetlocks. Twenty regions of interest (ROIs) were defined for the foot and 22 for the

Evaluation of the Antibacterial and Anti-Biofilm Activity of Chitosan-Arginine Nanoparticles and Sodium Fluoride against Streptococcus mutans.

Dental caries is among the most prevalent chronic diseases. It arises from bacterial biofilm formation on tooth surfaces due to metabolic activity. Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) is a key pathogen implicated in the development of dental caries. As bacterial resistance to conventional treatments increases, there is a growing interest in using novel compounds that possess antibacterial and antibiofilm properties. This study evaluated the effect of chitosan-arginine nanoparticles (CS-Arg NPs) and sodium fluoride (NaF) on inhibiting S. mutans' growth. After synthesizing CS-Arg NPs, their size, m…

Comparative evaluation of the remineralizing efficacy of calcium sodium phosphosilicate agent and fluoride based on quantitative and qualitative analysis.

BACKGROUND: Calcium sodium phosphosilicate (NovaMin) is an agent that is claimed to release calcium and phosphate ions intraorally to help the self-repair process of enamel. It is used extensively as a desensitizing agent, but the chemical reactions that occur may promote apatite formation enhancing remineralization. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the ability of NovaMin to remineralize an experimentally induced demineralized lesion. The evaluation was done based on the quantitative and qualitative analysis of enamel over the period of 15 and 30 days. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A sam

Effects of acute doses of sodium fluoride on the morphology and the detectable calcium associated with secretory ameloblasts in rat incisors.

Fluoride in high concentrations is known to have an adverse effect on the formation of enamel. The effect of a single injection of two concentrations of sodium fluoride on inner enamel secretory ameloblasts was investigated morphologically by electron microscopy and functionally by assessing the location and relative amount of available calcium, using the potassium pyroantimonate method. The results showed that acute doses of fluoride interfere with the normal function of secretory ameloblasts. The increase in the population of lysosome-like structures observed after fluoride administration is…

Inorganic and organic fluoride concentrations in tissues after the oral administration of sodium monofluoroacetate (Compound 1080) to rats.

Male rats were used to study the inorganic (ionic) and organic fluoride concentrations in plasma, liver, kidneys and stomach content after oral doses of 0, 2.2, 3.5, 4.0, 5.0 and 7.0 mg sodium monofluoroacetate (SMFA, Compound 1080)/kg body weight. Tissue and plasma ionic fluoride concentrations were observed to be higher in all rats given SMFA as compared to rats in the control group. This observation suggests in vivo defluorination of SMFA. Homogenates of liver obtained from SMFA poisoned rats showed significant increases in ionic fluoride concentration during a 6-day storage period at +4 de
