INTRODUCTION: Childhood anxiety is a prevalent mental health concern, and much research has focused on the development of related interventions. The Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) program is a parent-only intervention that focuses on reducing child anxiety by targeting family accommodations (FA). The current study aims to explore parents' perspectives of attending the intervention, with a specific focus on the temporal progression of parents' sense-making relating to their child's anxiety and family accommodations.
METHODS: Ten parents who attended a SPACE interve

Aging poses one of the greatest biomedical challenges of our time, with rising rates of frailty, sarcopenia, and cognitive decline globally. Preserving muscle and brain health is central to maintaining independence and quality of life in aging populations. This commentary explores how hibernation research, rooted in comparative physiology, offers unprecedented opportunities for drug discovery and therapeutic innovation. Hibernating animals exhibit remarkable abilities to regulate metabolism, protect the brain and muscles from atrophy, and prevent cellular damage under extreme conditions. These

Classical knowledge space theory provides a rigorous framework for cognitive diagnosis, but its dichotomous response model fails to capture the graded nature of knowledge. While recent research has extended KST to polytomous responses through reductionist approaches, their practical adoption is hindered by computational complexity and the lack of construction methods. This paper introduces a novel framework based on polytomous closure spaces with three key contributions. First, we establish the theory of these spaces alongside an atomic decomposition that enables compact state representation.

The unique conditions of space experiments place austere requirements to bio-objects and biological methods of radiation effects evaluation. The paper discusses suitability of a number of bio-objects varying in stage of evolution and metabolism for space researches aimed to state common patterns of the radiation damage caused by heavy ions (HI), and character of HI-cell interaction. Physical detectors in space experiments of the BIOBLOCK series make it possible to identify bio-objects hit by space HI and to set correlation between HI track topography and biological effect. The paper provides a…

The interest in the role of the gravitational factor during landing after long-term space flights (SF) leads to the search for various innovative approaches to assessing the compliance of external changes observed by clinicians. The results of special research methods such as Omics technologies that may reflect physiological responses to the conditions created during landing are of great interest. Our purpose is to compare the blood plasma proteome changes associated with the trauma and endothelial dysfunction processes prior to launch and on the day of landing, as well as the groups of cosmon

The development of new asthma biologics and receptor blockers for the treatment of paediatric severe asthma raises challenges. It is unclear whether there are sufficient children in Europe to recruit into randomised placebo-controlled trials to establish efficacy and safety in this age group. In February 2016, the European Respiratory Society funded a clinical research collaboration entitled "Severe Paediatric Asthma Collaborative in Europe" (SPACE). We now report the SPACE protocol for a prospective pan-European observational study of paediatric severe asthma. Inclusion criteria are: 1) age 6

Neurological diseases are becoming increasingly prominent worldwide due to rapidly aging populations, which greatly contributes to increasing healthcare costs. The development of neuroprotective drugs has so far proven exceptionally difficult due to the blood-brain barrier. One novel approach to address this challenge is to administer drugs intranasally to noninvasively bypass the blood-brain barrier. The intranasal route can thus transport drugs directly to the brain from the nasal cavity along the olfactory and trigeminal nerves. The purpose of this review is to describe the details of this

As human spaceflight expands beyond low Earth orbit, the ability to deliver advanced surgical care in space becomes critical. Current medical provisions on board the International Space Station (ISS) are geared towards treating low-risk conditions, with a 'stabilize-and-evacuate' principle for more complex cases-an approach that is not viable for extended missions to the Moon and Mars. This review summarizes research conducted around space surgery, with a particular focus on surgical robotics. Experiments in parabolic flight and analogue environments demonstrate that, provided the operator, pa

The rapid progress in global deep space exploration presents astronauts with a complex space radiation environment that substantially exceeds that of near-Earth orbit. Space radiation primarily consists of galactic cosmic rays (GCRs) and solar particle events (SPEs), which exhibit strong penetrative capability and considerable biological damaging potential. These factors may induce persistent oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, DNA double-strand breaks, and repair pathway challenges. This review examines the impacts of space radiation on the hematopoietic, neural, and gastrointestinal

The aim of this study was to perform for the first time the intracranial volumetric analysis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and brain parenchyma in the supratentorial and infratentorial space in a 30-year-old female patient with hydranencephaly and macrocephaly. A head scan performed using a 3T magnetic resonance was followed by manual segmentation of the brain parenchyma and CSF on T2 coronal brain sections. The volume of CSF and brain parenchyma was measured separately for the supratentorial and infratentorial space. The total volume of the intracranial space was 3645.5 cm3. In the supratentor

High-precision gyroscopes in space are essential for fundamental physics research and navigation. Due to its potential high precision, the cold atom gyroscope is expected to be one of the next generation of gyroscopes in space. Here, we report the first realization of a cold atom gyroscope, which was demonstrated by the atom interferometer installed in the China Space Station (CSS) as a payload. By compensating for the CSS's high dynamic rotation rate using a built-in piezoelectric mirror, spatial interference fringes in the interferometer are successfully obtained. Then, the optimized ratio o

With the continuing progress in space exploration, a new and perplexing condition related to spaceflight ocular syndrome has emerged in the past four decades. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has named this condition "spaceflight-associated neuro-ocular syndrome" (SANS). This article gives an overview of the current research about SANS and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) by analyzing the existing publications on PubMed and CNKI and reports from NASA about SANS, summarizing the potential pathogenesis of SANS and physical interventions for treating SANS, and discussing the

Recent research results from ground and flight experiments on motion sickness and space sickness conducted by the Man Vehicle Laboratory are reviewed. New tools developed include a mathematical model for motion sickness, a method for quantitative measurements of skin pallor and blush in ambulatory subjects, and a magnitude estimation technique for ratio scaling of nausea or discomfort. These have been used to experimentally study the time course of skin pallor and subjective symptoms in laboratory motion sickness. In prolonged sickness, subjects become hypersensitive to nauseogenic stimuli. Re

BACKGROUND: Space exploration introduces unique health challenges for astronauts, including musculoskeletal degradation, immune dysregulation, oxidative stress, and cardiovascular alterations, primarily due to microgravity and space radiation. Conventional solutions like synthetic drugs face limitations such as side effects and storage constraints during long missions. Phytomedicine, derived from plant bioactive compounds, offers a promising alternative to address these challenges through multitargeted therapeutic actions. However, most evidence on these plant-based interventions comes from te

Life-space mobility (LSM) is a concept for assessing patterns of functional mobility over time. LSM is gaining traction in the research of geriatric population health. Several instruments have been developed to measure LSM, such as the University of Alabama at Birmingham Life-Space Assessment (LSA) or the Nursing Home Life-Space Diameter instrument. There has been exponential growth in the use of instruments measuring LSM in studies of older adults since the concept was introduced in 1985. In response to the increased volume of publications with clinical applicability to those working in geria

The EU member states' healthcare and health-related research sectors are both characterized by an emerging infrastructural coalescence on a national and European level. The culmination of this coalescence is the planned creation of a European Health Data Space, an EU-wide infrastructure for the processing of personal data for healthcare and for secondary uses such as scientific research. In contrast to growing technical interoperability, the legal framework for such integration is not yet defined in detail, particularly with regard to data protection law. Its development is accompanied by disc

Scholars in the fields of health geography, urban planning, and transportation studies have long attempted to understand the relationships among human movement, environmental context, and accessibility. One fundamental question for this research area is how to measure individual activity space, which is an indicator of where and how people have contact with their social and physical environments. Conventionally, standard deviational ellipses, road network buffers, minimum convex polygons, and kernel density surfaces have been used to represent people's activity space, but they all have shortco

Interactions between numbers and space have become a major issue in cognitive neuroscience, because they suggest that numerical representations might be deeply rooted in cortical networks that also subserve spatial cognition. The spatial-numerical association of response codes (SNARC) is the most robust and widely replicated demonstration of the link between numbers and space: in magnitude comparison or parity judgments, participants' reaction times to small numbers are faster with left than right effectors, whereas the converse is found for large numbers. However, despite the massive body of
