In vitro studies of titanium and TiO2 as well as other metals were carried out to investigate the role of these metals in the inflammatory response through the Fenton reaction. Aqueous complexation of Th(IV), U(IV), Np(IV), Pu(III/IV), and Ce(III/IV) with DTPA was studied by potentiometry, absorption spectrophotometry, and cyclic voltammetry at 1 M ionic strength and 25 °C. Cyanide determination in whole blood can be performed by spectrophotometry after using diffusion coupled with coloration by hydroxocobalamin in a Conway dish. The technique may be accelerated by the use of a heating sheet at 45 degrees C. The method proved to be specific, sensitive, and fast, thus permitting measurements in emergency situations.

The role of the submandibular glands in the excretion of parenterally administered bis (tributyltin) oxide (TBTO) was studied. Fine structural alterations of the submandibular glands were observed with an electron microscope. Accumulation sites of TBTO were determined with an X-ray microanalyzer and tin concentrations in saliva and blood were measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometry.

Results obtained using Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometry (FTIR) for the analysis of samples of carbon disulfide (CS2) eluates containing trichloroethylene (TCE) and Freon from charcoal air sampling tubes were evaluated by comparison with results obtained when using gas chromatography (GC).
