The results of acute repair of the extensor tendons proximal to the metacarpophalangeal joint vary with the degree of associated injuries. Shortening should be kept to a minimum at the time of repair. The Kleinert modification of the Bunnell technique affords the greatest tensile strength. A 3-0 or 4-0 nonabsorbable suture on a small tapered needle should be used. The extensor retinaculum should be resected or transposed for injuries in zones VII and T V. Spontaneous rupture of the extensor pollicis longus tendon in excessive exertion is well-recognised, but similar rupture is rare in the common extensor tendons of the fingers. Two cases caused by occupational overuse are reported. Mechanical attrition at the distal edge of the extensor retinaculum produced by excessive use was thought to be responsible for the rupture.

The authors describe a technique of controlled postoperative mobilization of extensor apparatus. They make use of Levame splint in all injuries of extensor-tendons of the last four fingers except for "mallet finger" and "buttonhole". In a prospective study of 1012 patients above the age of 12 years, we detected 4 (0.4%) cases of left ventricular false tendon (LVFT) by echocardiography. Two patients had significant heart disease and LVFT was perhaps a chance occurrence; two others had no significant heart disease and LVFT probably had a causal association with S3 gallop in one and systolic murmur in the other. Diagnosis of LVFT may help to explain cardiac findings of uncertain origin.

The simultaneous bilateral rupture of the quadriceps tendon is a rare injury; only occasional reports exist about the bilateral simultaneous rupture of the patellar tendon. Degenerative changes of the tendon due to drugs or diseases lead to the rupture. We describe two cases of simultaneous rupture of the patellar and contralateral quadriceps tendons; only one patient had special risks. We report the management of therapy and the functional results using the Lysholm score and Knee Rating Scale.

PURPOSE: To assess the biomechanical performance of different stitching methods using a suturing device by comparing the elongation, stiffness, failure load, and time to stitch completion in cadaveric semitendinosus tendons (STs) and quadriceps tendons (QTs).
METHODS: A total of 24 STs and 16 QTs were harvested from cadaveric knee specimens (N = 40). Samples were randomly divided into 2 groups: whipstitch (WS) and whip-lock (WL) stitch. Both tendon ends were clamped to a graft preparation stand, and a 2-part needle was used to place 5 stitches, each 0.5 cm apart. Stitching time was recorded.
