A hybrid IGRT workflow using SGRT and CBCT for prostate SBRT: Feasibility, efficiency, and safety.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Safe delivery of prostate stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) relies on precise target localization. Without access to real-time intrafraction motion management, careful optimization of IGRT protocols is necessary to safeguard treatment accuracy and patient outcomes. METHODS: An IGRT workflow is proposed that incorporates surface-monitoring (SGRT) to complement cone-beam CT (CBCT) imaging. The study evaluates 23 consecutive SBRT prostate patients who were treated on a prospective registry study. Each patient received pre- and mid-treatment and a subset received post-

Distinct fMRI Responses to Self-Induced versus Stimulus Motion during Free Viewing in the Macaque.

UNLABELLED: Visual motion responses in the brain are shaped by two distinct sources: the physical movement of objects in the environment and motion resulting from one's own actions. The latter source, termed visual reafference, stems from movements of the head and body, and in primates from the frequent saccadic eye movements that mark natural vision. To study the relative contribution of reafferent and stimulus motion during natural vision, we measured fMRI activity in the brains of two macaques as they freely viewed >50 hours of naturalistic video footage depicting dynamic social interaction

Functional exercise capacity, strength, balance and motion reaction time in Barth syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Barth syndrome (BTHS) is an X-linked disorder caused by defects in TAZ with key clinical features including cardiomyopathy, neutropenia and skeletal myopathy. In order to gain a better understanding of the range of clinical features, identify targets for monitoring, and increase knowledge of natural history of the disease, we conducted muscle strength testing, functional exercise capacity testing, physical activity assessment, balance assessment and motion reaction time testing in 33 affected individuals and 14 controls. We analyzed data points to provide a cross-sectional quantita

Transderm scopolamine efficacy related to time of application prior to the onset of motion.

We evaluated Transdermal Scopolamine related to the time of application prior to the onset of motion. In this study 44 subjects participated. The first group applied the transdermal disc within 4 h and the second group 8 h or more prior to the onset of motion. We observed a significant decrease in the incidence and the degree of motion sickness for the group with at least 8 h of scopolamine application prior to sea travel. Therefore, the transdermal scopolamine system should be applied at least 8 h before potentially disturbing motion to provide adequate prophylaxis against motion sickness. We

Electrophysiological evidence of global structure-from-motion processing of biological motion in 6-month-old infants.

Understanding the actions of others is a fundamental and important skill for navigating our social world. A striking example of how our visual system is sensitive to others' actions is the phenomenon of biological motion (BM), in which the visual system encodes socially relevant information regarding action from as few as a dozen point-lights of motion. Previous studies have demonstrated that infants can discriminate between BM and other types of actions. However, there is a lack of electrophysiological evidence outlining the exact point of time within the first year of life when global struct

Case Studies in Physiology: Using premature ventricular contractions to understand the regulation of carotid artery longitudinal wall motion.

Recent observations have identified a distinct longitudinal motion pattern of the common carotid artery, where the wall oscillates along its length both with (anterograde) and against (retrograde) the direction of blood flow. The regulation of the longitudinal pattern remains largely undetermined, in part due to difficulty uncoupling local pressure and flow stimuli from upstream energy sources. In this case study of a 29-yr-old male, we examine the regulation of longitudinal wall motion from the perspective of spontaneous premature ventricular contractions (PVCs). With respect to the pre-PVC b

BehaveAI enables rapid detection and classification of objects and behavior from motion.

Here we introduce BehaveAI, a biologically inspired video analysis framework that integrates static and motion information through a novel color-from-motion encoding strategy. This method translates object movement-direction, speed, and acceleration-into color gradients, enabling both human annotators and pre-trained convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to infer motion patterns while retaining high-resolution spatial detail. Using a range of case studies, we demonstrate how the increased salience of motion information allows for the robust detection of objects that are challenging or impossibl

Postoperative C-reactive protein levels correlate with reduced spinal column mobility after median sternotomy: a prospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: The sternum is connected to the spinal column via the ribs, forming the thorax. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the effect of a midline sternotomy on the spinal column, but no in vivo studies have been conducted to date. We investigated the changes in the range of motion of the spinal column before and after midline sternotomy and the perioperative factors that have the greatest influence. METHODS: The participants were patients who had undergone cardiac surgery through a standby midline sternotomy. Spinal range of motion in forward flexion was measured before and after sur

Analysis of sensorimotor control in people with and without neck pain using inertial sensor technology: study protocol for a 1-year longitudinal prospective observational study.

INTRODUCTION: Neck pain is a very common musculoskeletal disorder associated with high socioeconomic costs derived from work absenteeism and medical expenses. Previous studies have suggested that patients with neck pain of different origins present sensorimotor control impairments compared with the asymptomatic population. However, there is a small number of published studies focusing on these with conflicting results. In addition, the existing methodological limitations highlight the need for more and better quality studies. Moreover, longitudinal studies are necessary to investigate whether

Short and Medium-Term Clinical and Radiographic Outcomes Following Arthroscopic Partial Wrist Arthrodeses - A Systematic Review.

Background: Partial wrist arthrodesis (PWA) is a salvage procedure used in advanced wrist arthritis and has traditionally been performed via an open dorsal approach. In recent years, surgeons have moved towards arthroscopic fusions to minimise soft tissue damage and preserve vascular supply, increase union rates and hasten recovery. The purpose of this study is to synthesise the current literature on the outcomes of arthroscopic PWA. Methods: A systematic review was performed to survey the literature regarding outcomes of PWA. English language studies that reported original data and commented

Sub- and Supra-Second Duration Perception of Implied Motion: Differences Between Athletes and Non-Athletes.

This study aimed to investigate the differences in duration perception between athletes and non-athletes when looking at implied motion images within sub- and supra-second time ranges. By adopting the temporal bisection method, the study analyzed the duration perception of 20 college student athletes and 20 non-athletes regarding the implied motion of daily life (running and walking) and static postures (standing). The results showed that the effect of movement posture was significant, i.e., the perceived duration of the implied motion posture was longer than that of the static posture. Specif

Biomechanics of the cervical spine. I: Normal kinematics.

UNLABELLED: This review constitutes the first of four reviews that systematically address contemporary knowledge about the mechanical behavior of the cervical vertebrae and the soft-tissues of the cervical spine, under normal conditions and under conditions that result in minor or major injuries. This first review considers the normal kinematics of the cervical spine, which predicates the appreciation of the biomechanics of cervical spine injury. It summarizes the cardinal anatomical features of the cervical spine that determine how the cervical vertebrae and their joints behave. The results a

Quantifying wrist angular excursion on impact for Jab and Hook lead arm shots in boxing.

The hand region is reported as the most common injury site in boxing, with more observed time loss than any other area in this sport. The amount of wrist motion, specifically flexion, has been described as contributing to these injuries, yet no literature is available to quantify wrist kinematics in boxing. This is the first paper describing wrist motion on impact in boxing. Utilising an electromagnetic tracking system, two types of shots were assessed, Jab (straight arm) and Hook (bent arm), during in-vivo testing procedures with 29 elite boxers. For both shots, flexion and ulnar deviation oc

The prognostic value of normal stress cardiac magnetic resonance in patients with known or suspected coronary artery disease: a meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Ischemia detection with stress cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) is typically based on induction of either myocardial perfusion defect or wall motion abnormality. Single-center studies have shown the high value of stress CMR for risk stratification. The aim of this study was to define the prognostic value of stress CMR for prediction of adverse cardiac events in patients with known or suspected coronary artery disease. METHODS AND RESULTS: Studies published between January 1985 and April 2012 were identified by database search. We included studies using stress CMR to evaluate subje

Wearable Sensor-Based Mild Cognitive Impairment Identification: A Multi-Domain Gait Analysis Approach With Association Rule Mining.

Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) involves cognitive decline beyond age-expected norms without impairing daily function. Crucially, it often precedes dementia, making early identification vital for timely intervention. MCI identification remains challenging with conventional clinical methods. Existing studies have shown a significant association between motion behavior and cognitive performance, highlighting the promise of Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) for motion-based portable MCI screening. Although some studies in the field of MCI identification have explored feature extraction based on I

Assessing falls in the elderly population using G-STRIDE foot-mounted inertial sensor.

Falls are one of the main concerns in the elderly population due to their high prevalence and associated consequences. Guidelines for the management of the elder with falls are comprised of multidimensional assessments, especially gait and balance. Daily clinical practice needs for timely, effortless, and precise tools to assess gait. This work presents the clinical validation of the G-STRIDE system, a 6-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU) with onboard processing algorithms, that allows the calculation of walking-related metrics correlated with clinical markers of fall risk. A cross-sectional

Noninstrumented facet fusion in patients undergoing lumbar laminectomy for degenerative spondylolisthesis.

The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate the radiographic and clinical efficacy of uninstrumented facet fusion in elderly patients undergoing lumbar laminectomy for spinal stenosis due to a single-level degenerative spondylolisthesis. Several studies have clearly demonstrated the beneficial effects of concomitant spinal fusion with laminectomy in degenerative spondylolisthesis. Controversy, however, persists regarding the virtues of fusion in this patient population. This study included 62 patients with a single-level grade I or II degenerative spondylolisthesis who underwent la

Towards efficient motor imagery interventions after lower-limb amputation.

BACKGROUND: The therapeutic benefits of motor imagery (MI) are now well-established in different populations of persons suffering from central nervous system impairments. However, research on similar efficacy of MI interventions after amputation remains scarce, and experimental studies were primarily designed to explore the effects of MI after upper-limb amputations. OBJECTIVES: The present comparative study therefore aimed to assess the effects of MI on locomotion recovery following unilateral lower-limb amputation. METHODS: Nineteen participants were assigned either to a MI group (n = 9) o
