Treatment patterns and preferences of people living with HIV starting or switching antiretroviral therapy: Real-world evidence from Portugal.

BACKGROUND: There is a lack of up-to-date real-life evidence on antiretroviral therapy (ART) strategies among people living with HIV (PLWH) in Portugal. This study aimed to describe the treatment strategy used in PLWH either initiating or switching ART. METHODS: Non-interventional, cross-sectional, multicenter study carried out between December 2019 and October 2021 in Portugal. RESULTS: A total of 237 PLWH were included in this study, 171 of whom were ART-experienced and 66 were ART-naïve. The study showed that triple regimens were the most common ART strategy and integrase strand transfer

Successful treatment of switching from benzodiazepine to orexin receptor antagonists improves cognitive function in psychiatric disorders: four case reports.

Benzodiazepines are used in the treatmentof anxiety and insomnia. On the other hand, they not only have side effects such as drowsiness, poor concentration, and muscle relaxation but also persistent cognitive decline. Even if we try to reduce the dose of these drugs to improve drug-induced cognitive function, it is difficult to do so due to dependence and worsening insomnia. I report four cases in which cognitive dysfunction was improved by switching from benzodiazepines to orexin receptor antagonists (suvorexant and lemborexant ). Orexin receptor antagonists were effective to improve cognitiv

Analysis of antiviral efficacy after switching from brand to generic entecavir in patients with treatment-naïve chronic hepatitis B.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Entecavir (ETV) can suppress chronic hepatitis B (CHB) virus replication as a standard of treatment drugs. For the treatment of CHB, affordable generic drugs may be more widely used in developing and undeveloped countries. However, there is little real-world data regarding the clinical efficacy of switching from entecavir-brand-name drugs (ETV-Brand) to entecavir generic drugs (ETV-Generic) with 0.5 mg once daily. The aim of the study was to evaluate the antiviral activity and safety of ETV-Generic in comparison to ETV-Brand in CHB-patients. METHODS: In this single-center, re

Switching to Tenofovir Alafenamide Fumarate in Chronic Hepatitis B Patients Who Had Detectable HBV DNA during Treatment with Entecavir.

Nucleos(t)ide analogues (NAs) suppress hepatitis B virus (HBV) replication, but the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma still remains. The presence of detectable HBV DNA in the serum during NA therapies for chronic hepatitis B patients has been reported to be associated with the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma. In this study, we investigated the antiviral effect of switching from entecavir (ETV) to tenofovir alafenamide fumarate (TAF) in chronic hepatitis B patients who had detectable HBV DNA in the serum at least once within a year. Among a total of 77 cases in 7 hospitals that switched NAs fro

Switching to aripiprazole for the treatment of residual mutism resulted in distinct clinical courses in two catatonic schizophrenia cases.

OBJECTIVES: The efficacy of a partial agonist for the dopamine D2 receptor, aripiprazole, for catatonia in schizophrenia has been reported. METHODS: We report distinct clinical courses in challenging aripiprazole to treat residual mutism after severe catatonic symptoms improved. RESULTS: In the first case, mutism was successfully treated when the patient was switched from olanzapine to aripiprazole. In contract, switching to aripiprazole from risperidone aggravated auditory hallucinations in the second case. CONCLUSIONS: We will discuss the benefits and risks of using aripiprazole for the t

Switching from imiglucerase to miglustat for the treatment of French patients with Gaucher disease type 1: a case series.

INTRODUCTION: Gaucher disease is caused by a deficiency of the enzyme β-glucocerebrosidase. Treatment with enzyme replacement therapy has been available for the past two decades but, although effective, enzyme replacement therapy can be delivered only by intravenous infusion every other week. The oral substrate reduction therapy miglustat (Zavesca®) has been available in Europe since 2002 for the treatment of patients with mild or moderate Gaucher disease type 1 for whom enzyme replacement therapy is unsuitable or not a therapeutic option. There are few published real-world data on the use of

A prospective study of haematological changes after switching from stavudine to zidovudine-based antiretroviral treatment in HIV-infected children.

Long-term use of stavudine is associated with a high incidence of lipodystrophy, warranting its substitution with zidovudine in first-line antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimens. In a prospective observational study, we determined the spectrum and severity of haematological changes after switching from stavudine- to zidovudine-based ART in Indian children aged 2-18 years who had received a stavudine-based ART regimen for at least 48 weeks. They were followed for 48 weeks for changes in haematological parameters and CD4 cell counts after switching to zidovudine. Of the 60 children analysed, 45 (

HIV quasispecies dynamics during pro-active treatment switching: impact on multi-drug resistance and resistance archiving in latent reservoirs.

The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) can be suppressed by highly active anti-retroviral therapy (HAART) in the majority of infected patients. Nevertheless, treatment interruptions inevitably result in viral rebounds from persistent, latently infected cells, necessitating lifelong treatment. Virological failure due to resistance development is a frequent event and the major threat to treatment success. Currently, it is recommended to change treatment after the confirmation of virological failure. However, at the moment virological failure is detected, drug resistant mutants already replicate

DNA-damaging agents show different kinetics in induction of heterothallic mating-type switching during growth after treatment in yeast.

Heterothallic mating-type switching in Saccharomyces cerevisiae has been shown to be inducible by DNA-damaging agents (Schiestl and Wintersberger, 1983). Different DNA-damaging agents differ greatly in their kinetics of induction during incubation after treatment. Irradiation with X-rays resulted in an increase in the frequency immediately after exposure and no further increase was seen during incubation after treatment. Nitrous acid and 4-nitroquinoline-N-oxide, on the other hand, did not show any increase in frequency immediately after treatment, but require post-treatment incubation to prod

Switching individuals in OUD treatment from cigarettes to the standardized research e-cigarette: A randomized waitlist-controlled cross-over trial.

INTRODUCTION: Most adults with opioid use disorder (OUD) smoke cigarettes, and cessation rates with FDA-approved medications are low. Switching to e-cigarettes (EC) is an effective cigarette reduction method in adults without OUD but has not been rigorously evaluated in adults with OUD. METHODS: Adults (N=41) in OUD treatment who smoked >5 cigarettes/day (CPD), used EC <3 of prior 30days, and did not want to quit smoking, were randomized to receive an 8 week supply of NIDA's standardized research EC immediately (SREC, n=22) or after an 8-week delay (waitlist control; WLC, n=19).
