Schistosomiasis very often illness in endemic countries caused by schistosoma haematobium and very rare disease, in Poland caused especially by birds flukes, and in travellers and refugees from endemic countries. It is important for urologist to keep in mind in differential diagnosis also this disease. Symptoms of the disease are primarily due to the body's reaction to the parasite's eggs and dead flukes forms, which cause inflammatory infiltrates. In the early stages, these are reversible and curable, but in later stages, they lead to recidivans haematurie, fibrosis and calcification of the a

The commonest urologic complication in 176 cases of chronic urinary bilharziasis was ureteric stricture (87 ureters in 55 patients), with the lower third of the ureter affected in 87% of the cases. Other complications included squamous-cell carcinoma of the bladder, urinary calculi and bladder calcification. Intravenous urography and cystoscopy were the most useful diagnostic methods in 76% of the cases. Post-micturition erect urography and frusemide intravenous urography gave great help in distinguishing between true mechanical and non-mechanical ureteric obstruction in patients with dilated

Neurogenic bladder is a familiar sequel to spinal cord injury, and bladder calculi is a common complication of neurogenic bladder. We report a case of a 25-year-old man with spinal cord injury resulting in neurogenic bladder. Permanent cystostomy was performed, and, for 4 years, the patient received periodic replacement of a cystostomy catheter. Bladder calculi were found on follow-up radiography. Cystoscopic lithotripsy was done, and it was noted that a hair was the nidus of a calculus. The hair could have been introduced into the bladder accidentally during the cystostomy catheter replacemen

BACKGROUND: Giant vesical calculi, defined as stones larger than 40 mm and weighing over 100 grams, are uncommon in young patients. In developed countries, only a limited number of case reports have been published, and no previous cases have been reported in patients with substance use disorder.
CASE REPORT: The rare case of a young male presenting with a giant bladder calculus causing obstructive nephropathy and renal impairment is reported. The patient had a history of substance use disorder, mainly opioids, and suffered from chronic urinary retention. Clinical and biochemical recovery was

OBJECTIVES: To assess the aetiology of stones which occur in enterocystoplasties and continent diversions, generally attributed to the presence of foreign material, e.g. staples, or to recurrent urinary infection, in patients with augmented or substituted bladders.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: The study comprised 467 patients who had undergone reconstruction of the lower urinary tract and had been followed up for at least 3 years using videourodynamics and ultrasonography.
RESULTS: Stones were found in 42 patients (9%); 50% were found incidentally and the remaining patients presented with symptomat

We report a case of a 38-year-old man with a background of a neglected neurogenic bladder, who presented with a recent onset history of stress urinary incontinence. He was diagnosed as having large prostatic stones along with a low-compliance, small capacity bladder and bilateral hydronephrosis with deranged renal functions. As self-catheterisation was not possible due to obstructing prostatic stones, holmium-YAG laser lithotripsy of prostatic stones was performed as initial procedure that resulted in complete resolution of stress incontinence as well. Successful gastrocystoplasty was performe

Jackstones are stones in the urinary tract that have the characteristic appearance resembling six-pointed toy jacks. They are nearly always reported to occur in the urinary bladder, and the occurrence in less capacious renal pelvis is unusual. We report a solitary, typical jackstone in the renal pelvis without significant outflow obstruction that was successfully treated with retrograde intrarenal surgery followed by extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy. This highlights the complex pathophysiological mechanisms in stone formation which needs to be further studied. It is important to recognize

A 26-year-old female visited our hospital complaining left flank pain and macroscopic hematuria. She had been suffering ulcerative colitis and administered salazosulphapyridine and predonisolone from 17-year-old. Intravenous urography showed radiolucent multiple stones in the left renal pelvis. Three sessions of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy were performed after ureteral stenting. Although disintegration and discharge of the stones were satisfactory, bladder stone induced by ureteral stent was complicated. The extracted bladder stone showed a yellowish brown color and the surface was g

OBJECTIVE: To assess the perioperative outcomes of holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) in real-life practice and investigate the factors influencing the safety and effectiveness of the technique.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Critical analysis of patients with benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) treated with HoLEP over 10 years of routine practice in three hospitals. Analysed variables included: preoperative characteristics (prostate size, active antiplatelet/anticoagulant therapy, blood parameters. prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level, maximum urinary flow rate [Qmax ], and Internationa

Perforation of the ureter is a rare condition that causes a series of problems including retroperitoneal urinoma, urosepsis, abscess formation, infection, and subsequent renal impairment. There are causative factors that induce ureteric rupture, including malignancy, urinary calculi, idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis, recent iatrogenic manipulation, external trauma, degenerative kidney conditions, urography with external compression, and spontaneous causes. We report a rare case of ureteric rupture caused by urinary retention. The patient was treated with temporary percutaneous drainage and

Cystoscopy is rapidly developing as a diagnostic and therapeutic technique for application in feline practice. Instruments are currently available that provide transurethral access to the lower urinary tract in most cats with prepubic percutaneous cystoscopy allowing evaluation when transurethral cystoscopy is not applicable. Cystoscopy is indicated for assessment of chronic cystitis, hematuria, tenesmus, increased frequency of urination, urinary incontinence, alteration of urinary stream, trauma, and cystic and urethral calculi. The vagina, urethral opening, urethra, bladder, and ureteral ope

There is a paucity of literature concerning the origin of urinary stone disease. This report uses information currently available to examine the likelihood of urinary stone disease starting from free or fixed crystalluric particles. We conclude that stone disease in the renal tubules and renal pelvis cannot begin on unattached (free) particles. However, in conditions associated with stone formation, initiation of bladder stone disease on free particles seems quite likely.

BACKGROUND: Bladder cancer is the most common malignancy in the urinary tract. Urothelial carcinoma is the most common histologic type of bladder cancer in the United States, accounting for approximately 90%. Squamous cell carcinoma is less common, making up 3-5% of bladder cancers. We present a case of squamous cell carcinoma in a female associated with multiple bladder stones.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 76-year-old Caucasian woman presented to the emergency department with gross hematuria and dysuria for one month. Urinalysis showed many RBCs and WBCs with positive nitrite. She was admitted with

BACKGROUND: Frontometaphyseal dysplasia, or Gorlin-Cohen syndrome, is an X-linked disorder primarily characterized by skeletal dysplasia, such as hyperostosis of the skull and abnormalities of tubular bone modeling. Some patients develop extraskeletal manifestations, such as urinary tract anomalies.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 26-year-old male patient was diagnosed with frontometaphyseal dysplasia and suffered from chronic urine retention. Although the patient was primarily diagnosed with a neurogenic bladder, our work-up revealed posterior urethral valves, bladder neck stenosis, and multiple bladde
