Paraganglioma of the urinary bladder initially diagnosed as gastrointestinal stromal tumor requiring combined resection of the rectum: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Paraganglioma of the urinary bladder (Pub) is rare and presents with clinical symptoms caused by catecholamine production and release. The typical symptoms of Pub are hypertension, macroscopic hematuria, and a hypertensive crisis during micturition. The average size of detected Pubs is approximately 3 cm. Herein, we report a case of a large Pub in which the symptoms were masked by oral medication, precise preoperative diagnosis was difficult, and intraoperative confirmation of tumoral adhesion to the rectum resulted in hypertensive attacks during surgery. CASE PRESENTATION: A 64-y

Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor of the Urinary Bladder Presenting as a Radiological cT3 Mass: A Case Report and Narrative Review of 89 Cases.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) of the urinary bladder is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm of intermediate malignancy that frequently mimics locally advanced urothelial carcinoma on imaging. The optimal surgical management when computed tomography suggests extravesical invasion remains undefined. CASE REPORT: A 57-year-old man presented with persistent dysuria without gross hematuria. Computed tomography demonstrated a heterogeneously enhancing anterior bladder wall tumor (30×29 mm), with perivesical fat stranding, radiologically staged as cT3N0M0. Transurethral resection

A case report of cholinergic crisis evolved from myasthenia gravis due to the tumor in trigone of bladder.

Cholinergic crisis has rarely been reported as a complication of myasthenia gravis, wherein it mainly occurs as a result of the improper accumulation of anticholinesterase agents. In this report, we present one such case. The nature of the patient's clinical manifestations suggested that the main reason for the cholinergic crisis was the abnormal accumulation of pyridostigmine bromide due to renal failure, which was secondary to a tumor in trigeon of bladder. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of myasthenia gravis leading to cholinergic crisis caused by acute postrenal rena

[Results of the UFT sensitivity test using human urogenital cancers transplanted subcutaneously and under the subrenal capsule of nude mice].

Experimental chemotherapy with UFT was performed against human urogenital cancers, transplanted subcutaneously and under the subrenal capsule (SRC) of nude mice. The tumor take with subcutaneous assay was confirmed in 21 cell lines of human neoplasms, which consisted of 9 renal cell carcinomas, 5 renal pelvic carcinomas, 1 ureteral carcinoma, 3 carcinomas of the urinary bladder, 2 prostatic carcinomas and 1 testicular tumor. On the other hand, the tumor take with subrenal capsule assay was confirmed in 17 of the neoplasm, which consisted of 7 renal cell carcinomas, 4 renal pelvic carcinomas, 4

Desmoid Tumor of the Rectus Abdominis with Urinary Bladder Involvement: A Case Report and Review of Literature.

Desmoid tumors (DTs) account for 3% of all soft tissue tumors. They are benign and have no malignant potential with a favorable prognosis, and predominantly occur in young women. The pathogenesis and clinical behavior of DTs are still uncertain. In addition, most cases of DTs were associated with abdominal trauma (including surgery), while genitourinary involvement seemed to be quite rare. Up to now, there has been only one DT case with urinary bladder involvement reported in the literature. We, Hereby, report a 67-year-old male patient with left lower abdominal pain while micturition. Compute

Quantitative molecular urinary cytology by fluorescence in situ hybridization: a tool for tailoring surveillance of patients with superficial bladder cancer?

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether it is possible to stratify patients with superficial bladder cancer into low- and high-risk groups for tumour recurrence/progression based on the chromosomal pattern detected by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) in one urine cytology specimen used for follow-up testing. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Voided urine samples from 47 consecutive patients with urinary tract neoplasms (13 with no history of urothelial malignancy and 34 under follow-up after complete transurethral resection of superficial urothelial carcinoma of the bladder) were evaluated by liquid-bas

Bladder cancer in patients with neurogenic bladder disorder: a comparative study of different etiologies.

PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to conduct a comparative study of different etiologies of neurogenic bladder disorders (NBDs) in patients with bladder cancer (BC) regarding patient- and tumor-related parameters and their oncological outcome. METHODS: Out of 98 patients with bladder tumors and neurogenic disease, 23 patients with BC and NBDs from Jan 1, 2010, to Dec 31, 2020, were included. The different etiologies of NBDs were merged in three groups based on the level of the nervous system (NS)-lesion: (i) central (n = 6), (ii) spinal cord (n = 10), and (iii) peripheral lesions (n =

Melanosis of the urinary bladder.

Melanosis bladder refers to the urothelium of the bladder appearing black and velvety, with microscopic evaluation describing melanin deposition. Risk factors, pathogenesis and clinical implications are unknown because only sporadic cases are reported in the literature, both with and without the presence of urinary tract symptoms or malignancy. We report a case of melanosis bladder in a male patient with voiding urinary symptoms and an untreated hypospadias.

Tumour-like lesions of the urinary bladder.

There are a number of benign epithelial proliferations in the bladder that may be difficult to distinguish from carcinomas, including urothelial carcinoma and its variants, squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. If misdiagnosed, there is the potential for over treatment, with its attendant risk of complications, as well as errors relating to prognostic assessment. In the case of the misdiagnosis of high grade proliferative lesions that mimic invasive carcinoma, unnecessary radical surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy may result. Similarly, the misdiagnosis of lesions that have the appea

Extensive rhabdomyosarcomatous differentiation in recurrent low-grade urothelial carcinoma of the bladder after transurethral resection: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Sarcomatoid carcinoma of the urinary bladder is a rare bidirectional malignant neoplasm with epithelial and mesenchymal differentiation. The epithelial component is mainly high-grade urothelial carcinoma, and the mesenchymal component includes rhabdomyosarcoma. However, proper differential diagnosis of adult rhabdomyosarcomatous tumors of the bladder can be a challenge. Moreover, low-grade urothelial carcinoma as the epithelial component of sarcomatoid carcinoma has not been reported. CASE PRESENTATION: A 64-year-old Asian man with a history of transurethral resection of low-gra

A Rare Case of Intravesical Angiomyofibroblastoma.

OBJECTIVE: To study the first reported case of intravesical angiomyofibroblastoma (AMFB). AMFB is an uncommon benign mesenchymal lesion, mostly described in the lower female genital tract, especially in the vulva and less commonly in the vagina. It is rarely seen in the male genital tract. The importance of this rare neoplasm is related to its potential mimicry of more infiltrative and prognostically less favorable lesions, such as aggressive angiomyxomas, that are found in the same anatomic area. METHODS: A 26-year-old man presented to us with hematuria. Investigations revealed an intralumin

Factors Related to Overactive Bladder-like Symptoms in Bladder Cancer.

BACKGROUND/AIM: The aim of the present study was to investigate the factors related to overactive bladder (OAB)-like symptoms in patients with bladder cancer. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This study included 59 patients who underwent transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT). OAB-like symptoms were identified based on the Overactive Bladder Symptom Score (OABSS) and International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) questionnaires. The main outcome measures were elucidation of bladder cancer-related factors that might induce OAB-like symptoms. RESULTS: Non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) was
