Recent suggestsions linking suppression observed in amblyopia ex anopsia with that manifested in normal ocular dominance coordinations were experimentally tested. Training procedures which normally alleviate functional amblyopic suppression were shown to have similar results in alleviating the suppression of the nondominant eye in visually normal observers. Methodological and theoretical implications of these results are discussed.

Subnormal vision can be a harbinger of threating disease. Recognizing certain "red flags" on history or examination can facilitate early diagnosis in the pediatric patient. These objective tests or subjective complaints may help differentiate true organic causes of vision loss from possible functional overlay, amblyopia or poor results due to an uncooperative child.

The importance of perimetry in every patient with otherwise unexplained loss of vision is stressed. In 10 cases, aphakia after silicone oil surgery was corrected as follows: after completion of all retinal interventions, but not less than 3 months after silicone oil removal, an anterior chamber lens (Kelman Multiflex) was implanted. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is known to affect visual pathways, but potential concomitant effects on vision and cognitive performance are not well understood. SIGNIFICANCE: To judge the feasibility of virtual reality (VR) headsets for vision testing and treatment of binocular vision disorders and low vision, angular resolution (logMAR) and field of view must be known and may not be reliably provided. This is the first study to measure the limitations of VR systems for eye care applications.

BACKGROUND: The Ishihara pseudoisochromatic plates constitute one of the most commonly used screening tools for red-green colour vision deficiencies. Even though hidden digit plates are supposed to be read only by those who are colour vision defective, studies report that some normal trichromats can indeed read these plates. One hundred and five children and adolescents with impaired hearing and 19 with impaired vision underwent in vitro tests (lymphocyte responsiveness and serum antibody to rubella) for retrospective diagnosis of intrauterine rubella.
