PURPOSE: We describe an ab interno technique for injector implantation of a one-piece multifocal intraocular lens (IOL).

During secondary posterior chamber intraocular lens (PC IOL) implantation with iris fixation in the absence of capsule support, we implanted an acrylic 3-piece PC IOL through a small clear corneal incision with haptics secured in knots; there was no need for IOL capture. We describe a new technique of aspiration of subluxated lens in young patients with Marfan's syndrome. Glaucoma of the aphakic patient is often difficult to treat. The authors present a new surgical technique which uses a portion of the trabeculum as a drain placed in the anterior chamber. Thirty eyes (19 aphakic and 11 pseudophakic) in 28 patients presenting refractory glaucoma were operated on by the same surgeon. Multifocal intraocular lenses have been in the market for three to four years. They were designed to achieve bifocal effect, minimising the need for additional spectacle correction for near vision. This paper reports the results of 99 penetrating keratoplasties for aphakic and pseudophakic corneal edema using a single-piece, semielastic anterior chamber lens. There were 24 patients with aphakic corneal edema and 75 with pseudophakic corneal edema. Most cases had history compatible with macular disease. An automated perimeter (Octopus 2000) was used to examine visual-field function in 52 pseudophakic eyes. Threshold sensitivity was reduced throughout the visual field by from 0.4 to 20.0 decibels from that of threshold sensitivity in age-matched normal eyes.
