PURPOSE: To report the clinical and ultrasound features and outcomes of a series of nodular posterior scleritis.
METHODS: Retrospective medical record review of 11 consecutive patients with nodular posterior scleritis. Patient demographics, ocular and systemic findings, ultrasound features, and final anatomical and visual outcomes were recorded.

OBJECTIVE: To report the third known and documented occurrence of malignant disease as a complication of immunosuppression associated with low-dose methotrexate therapy for rheumatoid arthritis.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We present a case report of a 64-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis who had received low-dose methotrexate therapy for 16 months in whom blurred vision occurred. An ophthalmologic examination was performed, and prednisone was administered. Subsequently, she complained of sore throat, weakness, and fever. An axillary lymph node biopsy and immunologic studies were done.

Herpesvirus hominis was isolated from the trigeminal ganglion obtained at autopsy from 1 of 22 patients with no clinical evidence of active herpetic disease, and from one patient with malignant lymphoma who died with herpes zoster on the abdomen, pulmonary cytomegalic inclusion disease, and possible oral herpes simplex. Selection of an orbital imaging technique requires a thorough understanding of pertinent anatomy applied to relevant clinical history and detailed ophthalmic examination. The clinical finding should direct the clinician to the imaging study that provides maximum information and narrows diagnostic considerations for the individual patient. Clinical examples are provided to illustrate the rationale in ordering magnetic resonance images, computed tomography, ocular ultrasound, and color Doppler arteriography of orbital processes.

Intraoperative combined SEP and BAEP monitoring provides a high level of safety for patients undergoing high risk intracranial surgical procedures. PURPOSE: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of intravitreal injection of bevacizumab as a treatment option for radiation maculopathy secondary to plaque radiotherapy.
METHODS: Interventional case series of five patients who developed radiation maculopathy complicating plaque radiotherapy with ruthenium 106 for choroidal melanoma. One to two intravitreal injections of bevacizumab (0.5 mL) were given, with an interval of 4 weeks between each injection. This study was an attempt to compensate for an alleged aetiological deficiency in melanoma by the prophylactic oral administration of the essential biological components missing. Nine random patients suffering from high-risk uveal melanoma (T3) were, in this preliminary study, treated secondarily with biological dietary adjuvants after primary standard therapy, enucleation or brachytherapy. Secondary treatment consisted of certain natural amino-acids, trace-element salts, folic acid and a diet containing neurogenic lipid components. It entailed no side-effects, no toxicity and was inexpensive.
