Optimized deep learning for brain tumor detection: a hybrid approach with attention mechanisms and clinical explainability.

Brain tumor classification (BTC) from Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a critical diagnosis task, which is highly important for treatment planning. In this study, we propose a hybrid deep learning (DL) model that integrates VGG16, an attention mechanism, and optimized hyperparameters to classify brain tumors into different categories as glioma, meningioma, pituitary tumor, and no tumor. The approach leverages state-of-the-art preprocessing techniques, transfer learning, and Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping (Grad-CAM) visualization on a dataset of 7023 MRI images to enhance both pe

Classification of intrusive thought patterns based on differences in the mechanisms of occurrence and persistence.

INTRODUCTION: Intrusive thoughts occurring independently of intention are symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD). However, they also appear in various other disorders, including substance use disorders, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and anxiety disorders, as well as in healthy individuals. Despite this, the diversity of intrusive thoughts remains largely unexplored. In this study, we aimed to (1) classify the factors causing intrusive thoughts as identified in previous research and (2) elucidate differences in the psychological states of intrusive thoughts. METHODS: We

Machine Learning Applications in Population and Public Health: Guidelines for Development, Testing, and Implementation.

Machine learning (ML), a subset of artificial intelligence, uses large datasets to identify patterns between potential predictors and outcomes. ML involves iterative learning from data and is increasingly used in population and public health. Examples include early warning of infectious disease outbreaks, predicting the future burden of noncommunicable diseases, and assessing public health interventions. However, ML can inadvertently produce biased outputs related to the quality and quantity of data, who is engaged and helping direct the analysis, and how findings are interpreted. Specific gui

Tracking Dynamics of Supported Indium Oxide Catalysts in CO2 Hydrogenation to Methanol by In Situ TEM.

Supported reducible oxides, such as indium oxide on monoclinic zirconia (In2O3/m-ZrO2), are promising catalysts for green methanol synthesis via CO2 hydrogenation. Growing evidence suggests that dynamic restructuring under reaction conditions plays a crucial but poorly understood role in catalytic performance. To address this, the direct visualization of the state-of-the-art In2O3/m-ZrO2 catalyst under CO2 hydrogenation conditions (T  =  553 K, P  =  1.9 bar, CO2:H2  =  1:4) is pioneered using in situ scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), comparing its behavior to In2O3 on supports

Integrating data mining with transcranial focused ultrasound to refine neuralgia treatment strategies.

BACKGROUND: Neuralgia and other neuropathic pain are difficult to treat owing to their complicated etiology and a wide variety of responses to treatment. The novel neuromodulation technology transcranial focused ultrasound (tFUS) has intriguing implications in targeted non-invasive brain stimulation. Patient-specific variables and neurological processes must be better understood to enhance tFUS for personalized therapy. METHODS: In this research, a Machine Learning based Transcranial Focused Ultrasound Personalized Model (ML-tFUSPM) has been proposed to treat neuralgia by combining tFUS with

Artificial Intelligence non-invasive methods for neonatal jaundice detection: A review.

Neonatal jaundice is a common and potentially fatal health condition in neonates, especially in low and middle income countries, where it contributes considerably to neonatal morbidity and death. Traditional diagnostic approaches, such as Total Serum Bilirubin (TSB) testing, are invasive and could lead to discomfort, infection risk, and diagnostic delays. As a result, there is a rising interest in non-invasive approaches for detecting jaundice early and accurately. An in-depth analysis of non-invasive techniques for detecting neonatal jaundice is presented by this review, exploring several AI-

A novel approach in diagnosing knee osteoarthritis for content based image retrieval in big data analytics and medical images.

The rapid growth in database size due to technological advances has led to difficulties in locating and accessing specific data components. While deep learning and other machine learning architectures are promising in retrieving data components, their effectiveness is more pronounced when addressing groups of diseases. On the contrary, this effectiveness decreases when large data sets are accessed. Content-based Image retrieval (CBIR) methods are used in large data sets. In this study, knee osteoarthritis detection was performed using a developed hybrid CBIR-based system. Knee Osteoarthritis i

Post-COVID-19 disruption of the respiratory microbiome modulates Mycoplasma pneumoniae: a multi-center retrospective investigation study.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a notable resurgence of Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP) in children, with a concerning rise in the severity of cases. Although changes in post-pandemic respiratory infection patterns have been documented, the reasons behind the increased severity of MPP, especially concerning shifts in the respiratory microbiota, are not well understood. This study aims to explore how pandemic-associated disruptions in respiratory microbiota contribute to MPP severity. Through analysis of multiple independent cohorts, we found that the depletion of protective r

Computational Model to Predict Potential Therapeutic Targets Employing Generative Adversarial Networks for Analysis of Proteins Involved in Mycobacterium fortuitum Biofilm Formation.

A planktonic population of bacteria can form a biofilm by adhesion and colonization. Proteins known as "adhesins" can bind to certain environmental structures, such as sugars, which will cause the bacteria to attach to the substrate. Quorum sensing is used to establish the population is dense enough to form a biofilm. This paper presents a comprehensive overview of our investigation into these processes, specifically focusing on Mycobacterium fortuitum, an emerging pathogen of increasing clinical relevance. In our study, we detailed the methodology employed for the proteomic analysis of M. for

A hybrid approach using support vector machine rule-based system: detecting cyber threats in internet of things.

While the proliferation of the Internet of Things (IoT) has revolutionized several industries, it has also created severe data security concerns. The security of these network devices and the dependability of IoT networks depend on efficient threat detection. Device heterogeneity, computing resource constraints, and the ever-changing nature of cyber threats are a few of the obstacles that make detecting cyber threats in IoT systems difficult. Complex threats often go undetected by conventional security measures, requiring more sophisticated, adaptive detection methods. Therefore, this study pr

Intensive care unit-acquired weakness - preventive, and therapeutic aspects; future directions and special focus on lung transplantation.

In this editorial, comments are made on an interesting article in the recent issue of the World Journal of Clinical Cases by Wang and Long. The authors describe the use of neural network model to identify risk factors for the development of intensive care unit (ICU)-acquired weakness. This condition has now become common with an increasing number of patients treated in ICUs and continues to be a source of morbidity and mortality. Despite identification of certain risk factors and corrective measures thereof, lacunae still exist in our understanding of this clinical entity. Numerous possible pa

Machine-learning assisted multiplex detection of catecholamine neurotransmitters with a colorimetric sensor array.

Catecholamine neurotransmitters (CNs), such as dopamine (DA), epinephrine (EP), norepinephrine (NEP), and levodopa (LD), are recognized as the primary biomarkers of a variety of neurological illnesses. Therefore, simultaneous monitoring of these biomarkers is highly recommended for clinical diagnosis and treatment. In this study, a high-performance colorimetric artificial tongue has been proposed for the multiplex detection of CNs. Different aggregation behaviors of gold nanoparticles in the presence of CNs under various buffering conditions generate unique fingerprint response patterns. Under

Differentially expressed genes in systemic sclerosis: Towards predictive medicine with new molecular tools for clinicians.

Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare and chronic autoimmune disease characterized by a pathogenic triad of immune dysregulation, vasculopathy, and progressive fibrosis. Clinical tools commonly used to assess patients, including the modified Rodnan skin score, difference between limited or diffuse forms of skin involvement, presence of lung, heart or kidney involvement, or of various autoantibodies, are important prognostic factors, but still fail to reflect the large heterogeneity of the disease. SSc treatment options are diverse, ranging from conventional drugs to autologous hematopoietic stem
