Validation of a novel CARTOSEG™ segmentation module software for contrast-enhanced computed tomography-guided radiofrequency ablation in patients with atrial fibrillation.

INTRODUCTION: Visualization of left atrial (LA) anatomy using image integration modules has been associated with decreased radiation exposure and improved procedural outcome when used for guidance of pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) in atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation. We evaluated the CARTOSEG™ CT Segmentation Module (Biosense Webster, Inc.) that offers a new CT-specific semiautomatic reconstruction of the atrial endocardium. METHODS: The CARTOSEG™ CT Segmentation Module software was assessed prospectively in 80 patients undergoing AF ablation. Using preprocedural contrast-enhanced computed t

Stone heterogeneity index as the standard deviation of Hounsfield units: A novel predictor for shock-wave lithotripsy outcomes in ureter calculi.

We investigated whether stone heterogeneity index (SHI), which a proxy of such variations, was defined as the standard deviation of a Hounsfield unit (HU) on non-contrast computed tomography (NCCT), can be a novel predictor for shock-wave lithotripsy (SWL) outcomes in patients with ureteral stones. Medical records were obtained from the consecutive database of 1,519 patients who underwent the first session of SWL for urinary stones between 2005 and 2013. Ultimately, 604 patients with radiopaque ureteral stones were eligible for this study. Stone related variables including stone size, mean sto

Incidence of branching patterns variations of the arch in aortic dissection in Chinese patients.

Several authors have described anatomic variations of the aortic arch in 13% to 20% of the patients who do not have aortic disease. However, few studies have evaluated these patterns in the thoracic aortic dissection (TAD). In the authors' knowledge, this is the first survey that specifically investigates the frequency of these variations in a broad, nonselected group of Chinese patients with aortic dissection. Furthermore, it compares this group with a group of patients without aortic disease. The objective of this study was to define the variation frequency of the aortic arch branches pattern

Impact of age on myocardial uptake of ¹²³I-mIBG in older adult subjects without coronary heart disease.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between myocardial uptake of (123)I-mIBG and age in older normal adult subjects. METHODS: 94 subjects (age 29-82, mean 58.5) without coronary heart disease were studied. All subjects underwent early and delayed planar and 4-hour SPECT (123)I-mIBG imaging. (123)I-mIBG uptake was quantified as heart/mediastinum ratio on planar images (H/M p) and on SPECT images (H/M s) reconstructed by filtered backprojection, ordered subsets-expectation maximization (OSEM), and OSEM with compensation for collimator septal penetration (DSP).

Radiographic evaluation of the patient with lung cancer: surgical implications of imaging.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. Despite many advances in treatment, surgery remains the preferred treatment modality for patients presenting with early stage disease. Imaging is critical in the preoperative evaluation of these patients being considered for a curative resection. Advanced imaging techniques provide valuable information, including primary diagnostics, staging, and intraoperative localization for suspected lung cancer. Knowledge of surgical implications of imaging findings can aid both radiologists and surgeons in delivering safe and effecti
