Computed tomography findings in the pelvis after resection of the rectum, obtained from 48 patients primarily suspected of recurrent carcinoma, are represented. Compared with conventional radiographic methods CT demonstrates directly in most cases the presence of a pelvic mass, its extension and relationship to adjacent soft tissue. Chronic periaortitis includes a spectrum of rare conditions characterized by fibro-inflammatory tissue surrounding the abdominal aorta. We describe a 47-year-old man who successively presented atheromatous coronary artery disease, cholesterol embolism after angioplasty, periaortitis with presence of c-ANCA, and finally typical pulmonary lesions caused by Wegener's granulomatosis. This case illustrates the link between atheromatous and inflammatory process and emphasizes that periaortitis may be a feature of Wegener's granulomatosis.

The so-called "inflammatory" aneurysm of the aorta of the abdominal wall is a special form of the arteriosclerotic aneurysm of the aorta observed in 5-15% of the abdominal aorta aneurysms. It is characterized by more or less marked periaortal fibrotization. We treated successfully 3 patients with upper urinary tract obstruction after an aortoiliac reconstructive vascular operation: 2 with ureterolysis and 1 with transureteroureterostomy. A review of the literature reveals that the incidence of this complication of reconstructive vascular surgery is unknown.
