The osteocutaneous superficial circumflex iliac artery (SCIP) flap in extremity reconstruction.

INTRODUCTION: Reconstruction of composite defects involving both soft tissue and bone in the extremities remains a complex challenge in reconstructive surgery. The osteocutaneous superficial circumflex iliac artery perforator (SCIP) flap combines a pliable skin island with vascularized iliac bone, offering a potential solution. However, reports on its application in reconstruction of the upper and lower limb remain limited. This study evaluates our clinical experience using osteocutaneous SCIP flaps for extremity reconstruction, with particular attention to surgical details, bony union and lon

Patellar Tendon Reconstruction With Achilles Allograft: A Technical Note.

BACKGROUND: Patellar tendon ruptures are relatively common injuries, often caused by high tensile forces on a weakened tendon. In younger patients, they typically result from eccentric loading on the extensor mechanism, whereas in older patients, trauma is the more common cause. These injuries can be functionally limiting and challenging to treat when chronic due to tendon atrophy, scarring, and proximal retraction. INDICATIONS: Reconstruction is indicated for patients with chronic, symptomatic patellar tendon ruptures confirmed by clinical and radiographic evaluation. TECHNIQUE DESCRIPTION:

Bone disease in kidney transplant: don't forget about osteomalacia: a case report and literature review.

INTRODUCTION: Osteomalacia is an often-overlooked manifestation of post-transplant bone disease that may persist or newly develop in kidney transplant recipients because of pre-existing chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder, ongoing immunosuppression, and alterations in calcium-phosphate metabolism. Severe vitamin D deficiency, hypophosphatemia, and secondary hyperparathyroidism create a metabolic milieu that favors osteoid mineralization defect and leads to debilitating skeletal pain and fragility fractures. OBJECTIVE: This case report documents the clinical course, diagnostic wor
