Perfluoropentane gas filled iron-silica nanoshells have been developed as stationary ultrasound contrast agents for marking tumors to guide surgical resection. It is critical to establish their long-term imaging efficacy, as well as biodistribution. We report the case of a 75-year-old man, in whom Y-90 ibritumomab was requested because of relapse of blastoid variant mantle cell lymphoma diagnosed in 1995. A case of a patient with small cell lung cancer and right submandibular node enlargement due to granulomatous lymphadenitis is presented. A 65-year-old woman with refractory anemia with excess of blasts received sequential courses of granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor therapy (GM-CSF) and low-dose cytosine arabinoside. Each course of GM-CSF induced a rapid and tremendous increase in leukocyte count as well as in spleen size, 111indium chloride scanning suggested a myeloid metaplasia of the spleen. This observation suggests that in some patients the granulopoietic response to the myeloid growth factor stimulation may be predominant in the spleen.

111In-labelled platelets were used for analysing platelet dynamics in 43 patients with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). The detected time-activity curves, recorded with a gamma camera, were analysed by three methods: two- and three-compartment models, and an open model in which only the splenic curve was analysed. The presence of rheumatoid arthritis in patients undergoing 111indium-labelled polymorphonuclear leucocyte scanning represents a source of possible diagnostic confusion. In such patients, the labelled cells frequently accumulate over the caecum and ascending colon, despite the absence of obvious pathology of the large bowel. The aetiology of this effect is unknown.
