Breaking Bottlenecks in Solid Electrolyte Discovery With Large Artificial Intelligence Models.

Solid electrolytes (SEs) are central to next-generation metal batteries, yet their discovery remains constrained by fragmented data, limited transferability of simulations, and slow experimental iteration. Unlike catalysis, where surface reactivity dominates, SEs require simultaneous optimization of bulk ion transport, defect chemistry, mechanical integrity, and interfacial stability. Here, we outline a framework for autonomous SE discovery enabled by large artificial intelligence (AI) models, including machine learning interatomic potentials (MLIPs) and large language models (LLMs). We discus…

Canvas Beyond Words: Teaching Machines to Sketch Empowers Their Spatial Intelligence.

How to encode and evaluate spatial intelligence in foundation models remains an open challenge. Existing approaches often rely on textual pr … language priors. In few-shot in-context learning (ICL) experiments with state-of-the-art multimodal large language models (MLLMs), including GPT- and Gemini-family models, SIG consistently delivers larger, more stable, and more comprehensive improvements across all VSI metrics than VQA-only representations. These results highlight its potential as an effective annotati …

Artificial Intelligence-Assisted Cancer Status Detection in Radiology Reports.

UNLABELLED: Cancer research is dependent on accurate and relevant information of patient's medical journey. Data in radiology reports are of extreme value but lack consistent structure for direct use in analytics. At Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), the radiology reports are curated using gold-standard approach of using human annotators. However, the manual process of curating large volume of retrospective data slows the pace of cancer research. Manual curation process is sensitive to volume of reports, number of data elements and nature of reports and demand appropriate skillse

SentiAgent: An agentic LLM framework for context-aware and explainable sentiment analysis.

Sentiment analysis has become a fundamental task in Natural Language Processing (NLP) due to the rapid growth of user-generated content across social media, e-commerce, healthcare, education, and customer feedback platforms. Despite the success of transformer-based models and Large Language Models (LLMs), existing approaches often struggle with contextual ambiguity, implicit sentiment, sarcasm, commonsense reasoning, and limited explainability. To address these challenges, this paper proposes SentiAgent, a novel Agentic LLM framework for context-aware and explainable sentiment analysis. The fr…

ifDEEPre: large protein language-based deep learning enables interpretable and fast predictions of enzyme commission numbers.

Accurate understanding of the biological functions of enzymes is vital for various tasks in both pathologies and industrial biotechnology. However, the existing methods are usually not fast enough and lack explanations on the prediction results, which severely limits their real-world applications. Following our previous work, DEEPre, we propose a new interpretable and fast version (ifDEEPre) by designing novel self-guided attention and incorporating biological knowledge learned via large protein language models to accurately predict the commission numbers of enzymes and confirm their functions

Improving B-cell Linear Epitope Prediction via Multiple Feature Fusion and an Integrated Machine Learning Algorithm.

INTRODUCTION: The identification of linear B-Cell epitopes (BCEs) is significantly important for the discovery of drugs, such as antibody production, peptide-based vaccines, and other therapeutics. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Unlike traditional laboratory-based methods, computational techniques can save cost and time in predicting large-scale BCEs. For this purpose, numerous in-silico methods have been designed to enhance the overall efficacy of BCE prediction. However, research gaps exist for further improvement in the context of using novel feature representations and learning models for BCE pre

TriFuse: A multi-signal three-stage data distillation framework for efficient medical model training.

OBJECTIVE: Large-scale medical instruction datasets often contain substantial noise and redundancy, leading to high training costs without significant performance gains. Existing data selection and distillation methods rely on single static criteria, failing to capture the diversity and dynamic nature of medical samples during learning. This study proposes TriFuse, a three-stage data distillation framework that integrates multiple complementary learning signals for efficient training of medical question-answering models. METHODS: The framework comprises three stages: (1) Proxy-student filteri

Integrating multimodal clinical data with a large model for prostate cancer diagnosis.

Accurate prostate cancer (PCa) diagnosis remains difficult because of tumor heterogeneity and the challenge of integrating multimodal clinical information. We developed Prost-LM, a multimodal large language model that jointly embeds MRI-derived features, numerical PSA values, and free-text clinical reports into a unified semantic space to enable deep cross-modal reasoning. Trained and validated on a large multi-center cohort of 3940 patients, Prost-LM achieved strong diagnostic performance, with an internal validation AUC of 0.954 for distinguishing PCa from benign conditions, outperforming MR

Aligning protein-generative models to experimental fitness with ProteinDPO.

Biological generative models can predict biological functions without task-specific training data but often under-perform specialized models. This is due to a fundamental 'alignment gap', where the rules learned during unsupervised training are not related to the function of interest. Here we demonstrate how to provide task-specific information without losing the general knowledge learned during pretraining by using direct preference optimization to align a structure-conditioned protein language model to preferentially generate stable protein sequences. Our aligned model, ProteinDPO, achieves

Snake Oil or Panacea? How to Misuse AI in Scientific Inquiries of the Human Mind.

Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly used to predict human behavior from plain-text descriptions of experimental tasks that range from judging disease severity to consequential medical decisions. While these methods promise quick insights without complex psychological theories, we reveal a critical flaw: they often latch onto accidental patterns in the data that seem predictive but collapse when faced with novel experimental conditions. Testing across multiple behavioral studies, we show these models can generate wildly inaccurate predictions, sometimes even reversing true relationshi…

NeuroNarrator: A Generalist EEG-to-Text Foundation Model for Clinical Interpretation via Spectro-Spatial Grounding and Temporal State-Space Reasoning.

Electroencephalography (EEG) provides a non-invasive window into neural dynamics at high temporal resolution and plays a pivotal role in clinical neuroscience research. Despite this potential, prevailing computational approaches to EEG analysis remain largely confined to task-specific classification objectives or coarse-grained pattern recognition, offering limited support for clinically meaningful interpretation. To address these limitations, we introduce NeuroNarrator, the first generalist EEG-to-text foundation model designed to translate electrophysiological segments into precise clinical

Ask a silly question: two decades of troublesome trials.

BACKGROUND: Randomized control trials and the use of meta-analysis in systematic reviews are the basis of evidence-based practice. The paper reviews their use in the development of evidence-based practice in speech and language therapy. AIMS: It is accepted that clinical outcome research should develop in a sequence of phases. A model of this process is described. Examples of outcome research in speech and language therapy are used to illustrate the use of the model and the problems that result when it is not followed. MAIN CONTRIBUTION: Existing research has largely ignored the agreed proce
