BACKGROUND: Keratoconus is a contraindication for photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). In the recent decade, some efforts have been made to perform PRK in patients with keratoconus whose corneas are stable naturally or by doing corneal collagen crosslinking. These studies have suggested residual central corneal thickness (CCT) ≥450 μm.
AIMS: The aim was to evaluate the long-term outcomes of PRK in patients with mild to moderate keratoconus in patients older than 40 with residual CCT ≥ 400 μm.
SETTINGS AND DESIGN: This prospective study was conducted in our Cornea Research Center, Mashhad, Iran

PURPOSE: There are many independent factors that influence the outcome of refractive surgeries, consisting of patient characteristics and environmental factors. We studied the accuracy of central ablation depth compared to online pachymetry results.
METHODS: A total of 153 eyes that underwent TransPRK at Bina Eye Hospital, Tehran, Iran, were evaluated from November 2010 to January 2012 in a retrospective cross-sectional study. The relevant data were registered and bivariate correlations and linear regression association were investigated statistically.
RESULTS: The mean age was 29 ± 5 years.

A 55-year-old woman presented with dyspnea on exertion due to a right internal mammary artery-to-superior vena cava arteriovenous fistula that occurred after pacemaker lead extraction with a laser sheath. The fistula was successfully repaired by placing a covered stent in the right internal mammary artery. In this unusual location, endovascular stenting is a reasonable alternative to coil embolization or surgical repair of an arteriovenous fistula resulting from laser lead extraction.

PURPOSE: To determine the outcome of patients who received phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK) for recurrent erosion syndrome due to anterior basement membrane dystrophy (ABMD).
DESIGN: A retrospective, noncomparative case series.
PARTICIPANTS: Forty-eight eyes of 43 consecutive patients who underwent PTK for recurrent erosions occurring in ABMD at the Hunkeler Eye Center from 1991 to April 1995. PURPOSE: To determine if rigid gas permeable (RGP) or soft contact lenses can be successfully worn after photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) to correct residual refractive errors.
METHODS: Patients with residual stable ametropia after PRK were fit with RGP or soft lenses. Manifest refraction, corneal topography, and keratometry were performed, and post-PRK corneal haze was graded during the study visits. Contact lens fit characteristics and comfort were assessed. Lens centration, visual quality, and ocular surface status were graded, and visual acuity with contact lenses was charted.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: After photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), the final refraction in the majority of patients is near the intended refraction. However, a significant proportion of patients show regression, which is commonly associated with corneal haze. This study aims to determine whether biologic and environmental factors influence the outcome of PRK.
METHODS: One hundred patients prospectively underwent -3.00- or -6.00-diopter corrections. Three months after surgery, 100% of patients answered a questionnaire that recorded their biologic characteristics, medical and ocular history, and post

PURPOSE: To analyze the refractive outcomes and changes in corneal aberrations after PRK and SMILE surgeries, and to compare these two methods.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: This retrospective comparative study investigated patients aged 20-40 years who underwent SMILE or PRK for the correction of myopia between - 1.00 D and - 2.00 D, along with a cylindrical power of -0.50 D or lower. Preoperative and 6-month postoperative assessments included uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), and corneal aberrations such as higher-order aberrations (HOA), spherical aberrations (

PURPOSE: To evaluate early and long-term outcomes of phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK) in granular (GCD), macular (MCD), and lattice corneal dystrophy (LCD) using corneal densitometry as an objective marker for surgical efficacy.
METHODS: In this retrospective study, 51 eyes from 31 patients (GCD: n = 27; MCD: n = 13; LCD: n = 11) undergoing PTK were analyzed. Corneal tomography and densitometry were assessed preoperatively and at intervals up to over 5 years. Mixed-model analysis was used for statistical evaluation ( P ≤ 0.05).
RESULTS: In GCD, best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) improved

One of the most frequently impacted locations by psoriasis is the scalp. It is seen in about 80% of psoriasis cases worldwide, and its treatment is challenging. To compare the efficacy and safety of excimer light versus topical methotrexate (MTX) 1% hydrogel in treatment of scalp psoriasis. This randomized prospective intra-patient comparative study was carried out on 30 patients with scalp psoriasis. Lesions were divided randomly into two areas: Area A and Area B. Area A received biweekly sessions of 308-nm excimer light and Area B received topical MTX 1% hydrogel once daily for 3 consecutive
